Caught these GWM Dragonflys under construction at HVN Custom Models.

Gonna be a cool looking formation flight when they both get airborne with p160s. (edit)

I have been kindly asked to not write such things about the Jet Cat, if I ever expect to own one....................or two.

Ray:

Could you expand on the "sorted out" thing with the P-160's. Are you saying they are having problems with the P-160's or are they just behind on production?

Thanks

I guess you would prefer them shipped where they would blow up like a RAM?

Hi Ray;

I was told the P160 had some problems that have been worked out by now. There are a few running P160's in the US that are running perfectly. I was told we will be seeing the 160 trickle in soon and become available in acceptable quantities soon.
I think you should be able to intelligently and respectfully convey your concerns about ANY turbine. We pay a lot of money for these little beauties and as such have a right to get our dollars worth. Having said that, The P80 (owned 4, sold 4) and the P120 (owned 8, sold 6) have proven by modelers, and me, to be almost bullet proof. I have not had a single failure. I think Jetcat is being responsible by not releasing the P160 and the P200 till they are ready. I have seen and EXPERIENCED many unexplained flameouts from another make that caused thousand of dollars worth of damage to jets. I have to believe that Jetcat is smart enough to develop their products to make a profitable return on their investment hence they do not want to screw up a good reputation by releasing a product too early. I can tell you for sure if I get a Jetcat that does not run to my expectation, I will be the first to let them go " IF " they do not fix the problem to my satisfaction. I have P160 on order for months now. I do not like it, but I can wait since the 120 are so good. If you need more power and can not wait, buy the Pegasus ( it is a little heavy and big and have a very simple ecu). Good luck!

David, come on now. The RAMs only blew up once in a while! Err, well, maybe a bit more. But at least I did not get hit by that hot tail cone at Superman '01!

Exactly! And you don't hear about that happening with JetCat, or any of the others now a days do you.

JetCat are taking their time with the P-160's because they know the engines are going into expensive models. The issues have been worked out on them and they are starting to trickle in. FWIW some of us have had them on order for far more than a "few" months. I have also owned several JetCat's but the big difference is I have kept all of mine and logged a bunch of flights on them. The P-120 on my Bobcat has around 250 flights with absolutely nothing done to the engine. The RAM's I had would not even last 100 flights before they shed blades, or started flaming out regularily, some within the first 10 flights. I'll wait for reliability!

p-160

Morning to all and Merry Christmas:

Rather than starting another engine bruha, get the word from the JetCat oracle....Mr. Bob Wilcox....let your fingers do the walkin'

Bob was more than willing to share the latest on the P-160 and P-200.

Bottom Line as of a couple of weeks ago----P-160 still a work in progress----some, but not ALL engines meeting specs at full RPM/full Thrust. High temps still a problem on some engines. Maybe will derate the engine to a lower max RPM, currently 127,000.

Good news! P-200 certification is underway.

Looks to me like the P-200 is going to be the way to go for the guys that want more than 30lbs thrust on a hot day. Slightly bigger, but LOTS more guts. They loaf along at 35lbs thrust. Should fit into a SuperBandit, and anything larger. I saw Jonathan Smith's SuperBandit with a Pegasus HP, a bit smaller than the P-200, tucked into it at FIJR. A bit tight, but not bad.

In the meantime, just keep buying those sweet little 120's. Like everyone else, all 3 of mine just keep purrin'.

:::opening forum mouth, inserting forum foot:::

retort-
never had the problems with my two rams (a750f and a 750plus upgraded to 1000rs) that you guys had/have. Counting my blessings on that fact. Both engines ran very well, with the only exception of not being able to relight the plus in the high desert once, but Carlos quickly fixed that problem.

As far as the other issue..........you/we wait, because you/we have no choice, if they shipped, you would take it! (period) Then gripe like nobody's fool.
I respectfully put the lid back on this can of worms, cause this is a debate that will get way too emotional. :stupid:
Matter of fact, I would ask admin to close it now. I need to make sure I dont post past my bedtime anymore. :o

Now what about that Dragonfly eh!

Ray,

My P-160 has been on order since Superman 2001. I was in the first 5 people to order one, and I DID get a chance to get one with the very first mods on it but wanted it right because I have been down that road. It's great that you had no troubles from your 750f and you won't it was a great engine, the 1000 though sorry to say it is only a matter of time. I was not trying to start a Turbine war here as well just stating that it will be worth the wait....also for what it is worth I will be putting a P-200 into my F-100 F just because I want to "loaf at 35#" just like Tom said.
