ICOM scanner
My ICOM R10 is dead, and (according to the ICOM service dept) is beyond repair. Since the R10 is no longer available, what replacement scanners do you guys recommend, and why ? Thanks, Gordon |
RE: ICOM scanner
I had also an ICOM R10 and never quite used it, found the audio quality too bad to listen to, or it was a crystal thing I don't know but it really had a terrible audio output. I switched for AOR and boy it was a difference in quality !!! I bought the fixed station but I presume the AOR mobile would be as good.

RE: ICOM scanner
Gordon,
I use the ICOM IC-Q7A scanner, and am very pleased with the results and it's user friendly operation. It can be set to scan each of our 72 Mhz frequencies. It operates on 2 1.5Vdc AA batteries, and it comes with two AA NiMh batteries and a charger. The best thing is the price. I paid about $125.00 for mine at a local ham radio store. Google "icom ic-q7a", and you will be able to find an on-line owners manual and a source. Regards, Harley Condra BVM REP JetCat REP |

Thanks Harley ... when I searched for a source though, this radio is showing up as discontinued too - just lik ethe R!0 is. (e.g. http://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/ht/2481.html)

RE: ICOM scanner
i use the alinco DJ-X3..is maybe not the best..but the price-quality is perfect for me...(is a portable one)
my rc club has one AoR for scanning at our meetings (table receiver), with all the used channel programmed, and he continously scan just those (35 and 40 MHz) |
RE: ICOM scanner
Gordon,
Go for quality... ---> AOR as far as crisp audio is a concern to you you won't regret it. Grove-Ent are selling the AOR mobile with substantial discount : [link=http://www.grove-ent.com/aorscanners.html]Grove-Ent[/link] Regards Sk |
RE: ICOM scanner
Gordon,
Yeah, newer models come out all the time. I looked at the catalog after I posted and discovered that it is obsolete. The ICOM Q-5 looks like it would do the same thing. That's what I will get if my -7A craps out. You could probably still find some -7A's and some -10's for sale by phoning some ham radio outlets, though. Harley Condra BVM REP JetCat REP |

RE: ICOM scanner
Oh I see.. didn't realize it was only for listening to RC band, then of course the AOR is way overkill !!! Too bad I sold my RC-10 on ebay some time ago. Strange thing is that
the buyer claimed to have never received it... Sk |
