RE: ViperJet Mk2 - control throws and tips?
Don't have pics. but I used the 1/2Robart struts, like Miguel said cut them to the length you need, I'm using Tam's retracts and Tam's 3" wheels, my wings are the older ones because of that the wheel wells were farther back, I cut new wheel wells to accommodate the strait Robart struts

RE: ViperJet Mk2 - control throws and tips?
I have a few questions for you Viperjet owners...
Whats the over all thought on this plane? Is it a fun jet to fly? Does it fly anything like a pattern plane? Is is forgiving in slow flight? Would you buy another if yours went in? Just very curious of what the over all people think... Thanks for the answers guys... |
RE: ViperJet Mk2 - control throws and tips?
Since I'm here now here are my 2 pesos.
Is it fun? yes, tons of fun. Does it fly like a patt. plane? It is a pattern jet, it flys just like one, super ssssssssssssssstable and sssssssssssssssmooth. |

Slow flight?
With the Crow set up recommended by Tam, you can slow this baby down to a reasonable speed to be comfortable to land without having to worry about running out of runway. ( of course, must have good brakes ), on my first landing I only used 1/2 of the flaps and it came a little hot but the landing was firm and I did not end up on the grass, also this jet has strait long wings a plus for slow under control flights. Will you buy another? If I was to get another one I will probably be back at Tam's shoppe the very next day trying to get the other one he has, no questions about it. |

My jet was flying with my engine set to 21 pounds, I had no idea, now I have it set to 23 pounds, at 21 it did just fine with excellent claims and very fast level pases.

RE: ViperJet Mk2 - control throws and tips?
As I previously stated my gear is a culmination of parts--The gear itself are Robart 630's but I custom made the struts by using one's that were 5 inches long from the top to the center of the axle---I then lengthened the strut by grinding off some material off of the scissor stops---I then had to cut some custom Robart springs to give the struts the proper tension under load....I think that the struts were 1/2" 'Roo struts and the springs were cut down from extras from my HotSpot....The nose strut is from my old Rookie.....All of this works great!!!!....But a pain to initially make up!!!

RE: ViperJet Mk2 - control throws and tips?
Overall impressions on the viper after now a dozen flights:
- Slow flight is good even without flaps it doesnt seem to bite, but slow passes with half flap steady it up nicely - If built straight it flys on rails no question about it, precision aerobatics should be no trouble at all - It has low drag, and the bypass works well so its a fast slippery model (though i fly on an unrestricted p120 and have no problems with excessive speed, cruise is at half ish throttle, full only in the verticals and passes) - With crow it does slow down, however, dont expect it to stop on a dime like a Kingcat or similar, even with crow you need to follow a good landing pattern - It has a very nice look and presence in the air and sounds very clean Personally im very pleased with it and for the money its hard to beat. |
