Another Hawk Scheme

Hi all,
4 FTS have decorated one of their Hawks to mark the 1 millionth flying hour being reached by Hawks in the UK. Here are a few pics I took of it at Fairford yesterday. Cheers, Dick Engand |

What a fantastic airshow in perfect weather in glorious Gloucestershire. ! There was alaso a new Hawk being shown by BAe systems, all black, though, but with a revised flaps and nose profile and a myriad of less obvious changes. Hope to get more photos and details at Farnborough this week and will post them. Should be fairly easy to convert an AW hawk to this version.
....and what about that Mig 29 OVT (vectored thrust) display hard to believe that any aircraft can be manouvered like that without tearing it apart or totally losing control, quite brilliant flying and truly amazing engineering. Regards, David Gladwin. |

Regards, David Gladwin. David, As a friend of mine said "aeroplanes shouldn't be able to do that type of thing"! Maybe someone whe was there who videoed the Mig could put footage on here...meantime, here are a couple I took. As a close second to the Mig, I thought the F-18 was superb (I have pics of that too if anybody wants to see them!). Cheers, Dick |

May be a bit controversial but after seeing the MIG strut its stuff I found the F18 Super Hornet a bit of a anti climax.
My fav. display was the older F18C flown by a Swiss pilot. I thought it was superb. Geoff. |

Agree, Dick, the F18 was very very good too, including the square loops, but that Mig 29 was in a class of its own ! I (briefly) looked at the crowd when it was flying, EVERYONE seemed stunned into an awed silence , never seen that before ! very impressed by the Patrouille Swiss too, their station keeping was incredibly accurate and tossing those decoy flares, in formation, was quite magnificent. Their total show was probably not as good as the Arrows but that decoy finale was real showmanship, and something the Reds are not equipped to duplicate (yet, but BAe told me the new Hawks will be able to do almost anything as its a lead-in for the Typhoon) Another wonderful RIAT and I've never seen Gloucestershire look more stunning as I drove through the back roads, no traffic, past historic airfields such as Little Rissington,surrounded by stands of golden corn in brilliant sunshine.

I have to say that I was one of those stunned into silence when I first saw it perform last Wednesday before the Flying Control Cttee...I've never seen an aeroplane do 2 backward flips, stop then power away, or do a complete cartwheel from the stopped vertical position! The Swiss F-5s were brilliant...I missed the picture of the 'flare break' (well impressive) but got loads more...
