CT-114 TUTOR ALMOST DONE!

Well, I put first clear coats on my CT 114 Tutor today! Using PPG paints, this is my first attempt at shooting a high gloss finish. Maybe I shoulda picked a smaller first project!! It's actually turned out better than I expected.

The kit is the Rodell MOdell 1/4.25 I got from Peter Mayer in Germany. EXCELLENT KIT! I highly recommend it! The landing gear on this aircraft is truly a sight to behold. Massive and yet smoothly funtional. The plane went together fairly easily considering it didn't come with any instructions. Malcolm Kay said he just got his delivered and it now has a complete set of instructions and pictures.

I've got a Jet Central Rhino for power with all JR 8611A servos on everything. Weight as it sits is 39 lbs. Haven't yet done final balancing, but I think I'm pretty close as is.

Now comes the fun part[:'(] I've got to wet sand, respray, wet sand and buff this beast. And right now we're in the middle of a big time HEAT WAVE! Jeez the suffeerings we go thru for this hobby:eek:!

Havig some trouble uploading the pictures. I'll keep trying

Dave,
About the only thing I can think of that would be more brutal than trying to paint in this heat...
Would be standing on the flightline at B'willow today. Man, it was prolly 115 up there today.
Tudor's lookin' sweet bro!

Looks pretty darned good. There were subtle changes in markings from year to year. The leading edges varied from dull aluminum to a chrome polish finish depending on the crew chiefs motivation to put the extra effort into polishing them....

Dave, that baby looks fantastic. I'm with you about it being too hot for just about anything.....let alone stand out on a flightline. It was 108 in San Jose today as we stood around a barbeque....then on to 112 as I went to the hardware store and tried to cool off on the way home. There are only 2 things that keep me from wanting to fly: way too cold, or way to freaking hot.. No flying for me until we get back down to 80 or so. When the weather's right for you, give me a call so I can come watch you test fly that baby.
Nice Job bud,
Dave

David:

It keeps getting better with every picture I see. Thanks for keeping me posted on your progress. Your talents are endless.
Performance with the Rhino will be awesome. As for the high temps, it's been running 88 to 92 here on the Gulf Coast of Florida. . .we are still flying every day we can. Care to join us? LOL!
Keep us posted on your progress. There is a good chance I may be able to fly out and join you for the maiden. Let me know.
Until then, if there is anything you need, just give me a call. It will be on it's way in 24 hours or less.

Cheers,

Hey David,,,, looks like real nice job I will have to do mine with different numbers so that the two can't be confused...I got mine out of the box yesterday and slotted it all together in about three hours , just taped it together to see how it looked and it is awsome.....same sorta quality as airworld but 2/3 the price and the landing gear what a joy to behold !!! german engineering at its finest ! did you notice how easy that long nosegear goes up with almost no pressure ...smoooooth ! I have taken the agency for United States for Peter Mayer's products and I am bringing them in,.... the shipping and customs clearance were expensive but it still comes in at way less than an airworld kit,........ and i didn't even know when i orderd the first one that the formers were all installed at the factory , along with all the carbon fibre landing gear mounts and reinforcing everywhere,, Jeeez it's almost and ARF.......looking forward to cracking on with it .... if any one wants any info I am bringing the kits in for sale call 0r write 561 213 6282,,,,, I will put some pics on here when i get the time.......best of luck let me know how the bird flies.......Malcolm Kay

here are a few photos of the Tutor, after three hours from opening the box , everything just slotted together to see how it fits and what it looks like held together with tape etc... I measured the beast and its 105 inch wingspan, 95 inches long and the prototype weighed 43 lbs dry must get on with it ! i'm exited about the project...................... Malcolm

Malcolm.

I just checked the AMA reg's again and there is nothing there which would preclude using the 1.5 liter european fuel bottles.

"The fuel tanks shall be of rigid construction with consideration given to burst and puncture resistance."

I'm going to stick with my three bottles.

Dave,

Thanks for the support! Maybe I'll just give you the box and let you have the honors while I take pictures! I'll probably do first flights at the basin if the Willow doesn't cool down first! I'll give you a call as soon as I'm done with this.

David

Just let me know bud, I can make it there in 5 hours.......but now that I got a baby, you may need to give me a few day's notice. IM THERE!

Malcom, Dave had this kit out at California Jets sitting on its gear letting us all look at her. First class German craftsmanship, cant wait to see how she fly's.
