Simjet 1200

Has anybody run one of these on 11.1volt lipo batteries ? We are running on test stand this way and out starts seem to take an awful long time and shoot a lot of flame and get on the hot side. Any ideas ?? I have lots of RAM turbine time and no simjet time. Im slowly learing the engine.

I'm running my SJ 2300 on a lipo batt. ( 11.1 volt ) right now and is doing a lot better on the starting sequence, for the slow ramp up try to open the propane a little, getting more propane on the starting sequence will speed up the starting process, I did just that on mine last week and the starting is happening a lot faster.

Hope this help.

Yes sir I am using the 11.1 v LiPo on a Simjet1200 and I am using straight propane. I have the valve that Greatnorthernmodels sells on my propane bottle and I do not use the electronic valve attached to the ECU. How I start is to start the procedure as normal (full throttle wait for the yellow light, then low throttle) when the startup sequence begins I wait for the red light and then turn on the propane, just two clicks on the valve, starts every time. Very early on I had a fuel valve that was bad that caused the same symptom you are having try switching your two valves to see if maybe you have a bad valve. If all else fails try to get a hold of Ed at Great Northern Models his a good guy and will probably be able to help.
Gary.

I find they start better using propane with the valve from Great Northern. My 700 was starting poorly and that was with powermax, now I use propane. The starts are a lot better.

Sorry, I'm using Powermax too, my engine starts on the spot every time.

My new 18# 1200 came with a 2 cell lipo and no problems starting with powermax. Full auto start.

This ECU requires 9.6volts so a two cell lipo isnt enough oommphh.

I have an 18 lb 1200 and had to replace the 7.4v lipo that came with it with an 11.1v, per Lars' instructions. Since the change it runs perfect.

Our lipo battery is 2250 mah, 11.1 volts, 12c continuos and 20c bursts. Does this sound like enough or more than enough for this engine which requires a 9.6volt nicad ?

the engine needs to spool faster then 32000 rpms on the starter to get a cool start without the flames and puffs.
anything below it will run hot and become unstable and its very bad for the bearings and then some.
now with the tarabat lipo,s (come standard)7,4 they loose peak power voltage and therefore it is needed to use a 11,1 volts battery.
why dont you guys ask this in the engines section?
