RAM 750 ecu
 

Picked up a ram 750 but it doesnt have an ecu. Is it possible to still get them, or are there other options? Any one know of someone who has crashed a 750 and still has the ecu laying around.

Is it air or electric start ?. Is it CP pressure control or RPM sensor control ?.

Check with JetFlyer - JR Gautreaux - he just did an electric start conversion and has his original air start, case pressure 750 ecu - which is the "Plus" version. I'll see him later today and will also say something to him.

Most people are recommending the FADEC ECU - it seems like an easy alternative.

My question is, (without hijacking :) ) those of you that have had a case pressure RAM converted to hall sensor - how much did it cost and was it worth it? I am about to send a RAM750p to Carlos that will need to be converted and I know he'll take great care of it/me - I just wanted to know from those of you that have done this what to expect $wise.

My impression about a 750 plus (please correct if I am wrong, I have never owned/ran a RAM before) is that because of it's balance and temp tolerance can be taken to a thrust level between a 750 and 1000 rmp wise as a countinuos rating.

I'm sure (and hope) some experienced RAM operators will chime in soon!

Yes, the plus' are rated to a higher case pressure/rpm. JetFlyer's 750P put out around 22 pounds, before his upgrade and I think it's supposed to be putting out closer to 24 pounds now. But then, he had the turbine wheel, NGV, comustion chamber, hall effect sensor, new bearings and a new ECU. I think an ECU, new nut, rebalancing would be somewhere around $500, but you'd have to get that commitment from the vendor. A use replacement ECU would be cheaper by far.

As to whether or not it's worth converting to hall effect sensor as a part of the only change, I doubt it. Perhaps you'd notice an increase in response time on the ECU?, maybe not at all. Won't get any more poundage.

I have a RAM750, one of the first 2 stroke turbines in Australia. I have fitted a manual start FADEC from Gaspar to it, installed the RPM pickup and an electric start. It could be full auto if I wanted to go that way. runs a treat. Some years ago I wrote off the original ECU and then went to a pressure FADEC. Have just upgraded. Like Nike says....... just do it.

I had one of the first 2 stroke RAM 750's in Australia. It gave good service with the original ECU. After a small mishap, I fitted a 'pressure' FADEC system from GASPAR, however, the mid to low throttle response was not good. I have just converted it to an RPM unit with a new GASPAR ECU unit. Brillliant. The engine is now 10 years old, i new set of bearings, now new internals except for a rework to have only one end of the shaft loaded with the spring washers for pre-load. It's in a Rookie MkII, doing 119KRPM ( wound back from 122k). Looking at the data from the FADEC, it spend most of it's air time at 88krpm to 93krpm, except for the odd 119k for the unlimited verticals.
Spend the money, convert it to RPM sensor and electric start with the Gaspar FADEC. Mike O'Rielly will remember the engine. It was the first 2 stroke engine in Australia but it came with the old total loss oil instructions. It lasted 3 bench runs before bearing failure. It was returned and rebuilt at no cost and has been trouble free for nearly 10 years.
