I really don't know if you would want it to be in the "skunkwerks" for any amount of time though,....

mine is out of the box, stripped to the bones, and awaiting all of the goodies I have accumulated over the past week.

I am doing a couple of things to it before re-covering it...
Aileron servos (DS-821) are being recessed- (access from panels on the top)
cutting access panel for wing attachment/tank access/fuel tubing routing/anything else I can think of on bottom of fuse
making canopy "useable"
disabling rudders and making them a bit more aerodynamic
hitec 125mg in horizontal stab
re-engineering the nose blocks to get a touch more "retract" of the front gear, and trying to get a decent pull pull linkage set up on the front gear
applying a radical paint/monokote scheme........

and last but not least, tearing down the .55 and carb to find out why it's running lean while being adjusted pig rich....
CRASHPRO- do you know your needle settings? for both high and low? and your nitro preference? maybe my low is lean, and the high is rich, and maybe the engine is just running decent while being grossly out of tune? or it's fried......... new liner and piston?

I also want to get the jett pipe for it, but don't know exactly which pipe to order from them..... (as I remember, it was the red pipe that was modified to exit from the opposite end) ANYONE?

I also tried restrictors on the gear to slow them down a bit, but they still didn't work.... the gear still slams retracted, and springs down at the right speed. I am afraid that the gear will eventually work itself loose by beating the $#it out of itself every time it retracts..... do I need a different valve for the retracts? I have the green one that comes with the robart system..

The pictures look like many of my airplanes and I love it. Often the plain Janes provide remarkably more pleasure than their prissy counterparts. Performance is important.

I know it is in the thread, .....somewhere..... but the manual says 10.3" from the leading edge of the wing where it meets the fuselage. hope this helps

the cg in the manual is correct, most have it at 10.5

I had great success with my Falcon .25 (well Actually it has a OS .35 in it).  No retracts.  I bought and built this plane to learn how to land my Bobcat .55, which is fully loaded with retracts and I have lot invested.  By summer I'll be ready to take the Bobcat back out.  I got tired of repairing the landing gear area after every flight.  I can land the Falcon .25 with good consistency.

Well- Just finished mine.... *yeah, I'm a late bloomer i guess....*

I anticipated a bit tail heavy state cause I put a medium size air tank in the rear above the fuel tank, and I have also been told that they come out heavy in the tail even without all the boom servos....
C/G as it sits is 9 1/8" behind the LE of the wing @ the fuse..... Sheez! I put a 2000Mah 6 cell pack in the nose cone in front of the front bulkhead (in front of the one in front of the nose gear bulkhead) so it's time to put the batt near or even behind the servo tray...... 7lbs. 9oz.

I did some of the mods discussed in the thread,
-125mg in the horizontal tail
-increased AOA to + @ LE
-set up spoilerons
-adjusted height of the engine blocks to clear crankcase of OS .55AX with Jett pipe

Also, I chose to change the way the surfaces were hinged, to a Monokote hinge on a top pivot bevel, as well as omitting the rudders altogether.
I also chose to clean up the wings a bit by laying the aileron servos on their sides with the only protrusion being the outer portion of the servo arm. access to the servos are through hatches on the top of the wing, Another mod I did was to cut a hatch in the bottom of the fuse, below the wing "alignment holes" which were threaded, and installed 4mm bolts to join the wings. They are not glued on. This way if I need to break the airframe down for service, it's no problemo..... not to mention that I can get to the tank if I choose to.
Once I get the C/G adjusted to 10.3", I'll be ready for a Maiden on sunday! I am hoping to go just a pinch faster than a fellow club members bobcat with the mods I did to just clean up a couple draggy areas. I SWEAR I'm not a touch competitive! He He!

Yeah it's pretty good at teaching you how to deal with the Bobcat.

Set it up for spoilerons and you'll really get the feel for landings.

It must scream with the OS .35.

I have mine set up with a 800 watt 14.8v motor and it is impressive to see it scream by.

Quick question for anyone.....
Will a 3/8" offset in the angle of attack be sufficient? high in the front (of course) :) I can get possibly another 1/4" without changing wheels out to smaller ones on the mains, but I don't want no sticky retracts-
In hindsight, I could've moved the nosewheel cutout a touch more aft and left the gear leg longer, but this is where I'm at....

When the plane throttles up, the nose wheel is pushed downward.

So you should try to get a visible and positive angle of attack when the plane sits on the ground.

** Note to anyone listening**

3/4" is TOOMUCH of an offset from the LE to the TE.
Granted, the plane does need to be slowed down on landing, and should be flared to bleed off speed, but too much positive angle of attack will turn a hot landing, or even a normal not stalled landing into a bouncing tip stalling unhappy time.
I am going to repair the fuselage (stress cracks and buckled a bit) and the already reinforced main gear,(flexed aft, not ripped out due to bounce, bounce, 45*upward and tip stall into the runway runoff) and set my AOA to between 1/8" and 1/4". I might err towards a 10" C/G as well. (I am @ 10 3/8). looking at the video, I don't feel like I landed hot, or over controlled the plane in any way- just a wicked bounce issue due to the gear heights. I had another tri-gear plane that had problems like this that were remedied with shortening the nosewheel. I assumed that this configuration required a bit different approach, so I went with it.

Here's the link to the vid... Slow motion (pause and advance the arrow key) shows how much flex the nose actually absorbed- Radical to say the least! I'm seeing like almost 75* to the left.
I could have had the needle turned out a few more clicks. I have found this engine to be pretty hard to dail all the way without overheating, but our other member hasn't had any overheating issues- I conclude that I just haven't got it tweaked just right...

Getting ready to remove everything from the bobcat- I should be done in about 2 hours of cutting zip ties and air hoses...Then I can begin fixing it lol!

It's all glassed up, and the wing is about ready to go back together..... Just cosmetics now.......
