RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Just got a couple more flights on the Bobcat with OS .91FX. Getting it trimmed and dialed in. I think I could use more prop. Using a 14X7 3 blade cut to 6.5. Bob

Wayne22,
I will see what I can do. Depends on how it all works out unless you want to see what not to do. |

Starting to get some large dings to the booms and TE of the wing from FOD. Guess there is nothing you can do about it except fly from somewhere other then grass. Otherwise holding up well.

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
I am considering setting up a bobcat with an OS 55AX, and have a couple of questions. 1st off, can it be fitted with retracts, and if so, what is everyone using? 2nd, what 3 blade prop would work best with that setup, and what kind of speeds can I expect?
Thanks Bob |
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Been running the 55ax in mine for quite a while. No retracts though. Radar gun indicated level speeds averaging in the mid 80mph range. Diving speed maxed at 102mph. Using an APC 11x7 prop and 15% Omega for fuel. Why go with a 3 blade?

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Widgit, I had to go thru the process faxing my Drivers Lic., credit card because my shipping address did not match my billing address. This happens to me all the time, since my billing address is in Canada and I winter here in Florida. I rec'd my Bobcat a couple of weeks ago and had no problem what so ever. Should be ready to fly this weekend with a OS46FX. E-mail me at [email protected] if you have any other questions. Bob Barrow |
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
It just looked good with the three blade on their site. I do think that the three blade would give a little better ground clearance. I'll wait and see on that I guess. I was hoping to break 100 mph level, and think it will with retracts.
Thanks Bob |
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Is it possible to use a different style muffler on this model...such as the Bisson Pitts style, or Slimline Pitts, or Sport style?
|
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Hey Bob im using same setup still puttin it together let me know what prop ,cg and any other thing u can tell me gl on maiden
Thx Jason |
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
ORIGINAL: Zagzoo Bob has to be getting a cut on these planes.. or I think he would have sued them by now for copywrite & patent infrigments. Might be a fun little plane to play with, need retracts in them though. patent infrigments??? I |
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Well my Chrissy present is nearly finished.I need two Y leads and a switch.
I`m running a asp 75 piped (had about 15 flights) Test balance is 260 mm or 10" I`ll finish it and set the radio up Wed for a maiden Thu. Dave http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...8/DSC01029.jpg |
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Thanks for the pic Dave... I have a stump pulling ASP 75 with a pipe that I was thinking of using. One of the advantages of this engine is that the front case is bolted on, so the engine can be converted to reverse rotation and use standard props...
|
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Wayne22, im curious, how do you reverse the rotation, even if the front case is bolted on ? a quick explination would be great.
thanks. |
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
please enlighten us on the reverse rotation. could you post pics of exactly how you do this?
|
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Looks great dave,
Mine just needs a Receiver and and a battery pack, OS61fx for power, can't wait to tear it up with ya up there, maiden on friday I hope! |
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
With a bolt on front housing turning the housing (& carb) 90 deg (I'm told it's to the right but I'm assuming it's when viewed from the front) alters the inlet port timing enabling the engine to run in the reverse direction. Don't forget, if using a 'normal' direction prop it has to be fitted backwards on the shaft and make sure your starter is also reversed. - John.
|
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
I believe that the carb is rotated 90 degrees counter clockwise when looking at the prop end...I could be wrong, but if so, it is simply a matter of undoing 4 bolts and flipping to the other side.....I'm not quite there yet... Best to try it on a test stand first before you run the throttle linkage etc though...
|
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
It's to the right or left, but thas the fact, Jack! Turning it clockwise would advance the intake timing and then running it backwards would flip that 180° the other direction. I don't know for sure, but if you rotated it counter-clockwise that would put the carb at an uncomfortable position next to the muffler, so I vote clockwise.

CrashPro,
Here is a pic of my Evolution .46 with a Pitts muffler. |
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Thanks for the picture JDBuddy....in my opinion that looks much better than a regular muffler or tuned pipe pointing forward. I'll probably be going with a Tower .75 for mine,...still waiting for it to ship

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Wegie Pilot- Yupp. You hit the nail on the head. I heard from NitroM this morn and all was OK, after the fact. We too have a "billing address" different from the shipping. However, Amazon, etc etc etc has never had a prob with it, and I mean, I do 'first-time-orders' in the thousands with no prbs, so it really concerned me. I actually put a block on my card over it. And then? They wrote and appologized and was going to put the order through without verification!!! ha* I gave them an A+ for trying and will probably order it next time home... No matter what though, they were NOT going to get my DL license out there... (My bride and I drive long haul, so I need to be here when I order.) I'm busy bashing my new Dual Ace into a tail dragging, retract and it has most my interest right now.
