i balanced the jet around 10.5 with standard servos in the tail.. i added about 7 ounces to the tippy tip nose of fishing weights.

OK fellas, I just joined the Bobcat 50 club! I've been following this thread since its inception, and saving my pennies. Several times I went to the Nitro Web site ready to buy but I just couldn't convince myself to spend that much on shipping. Today I went to my local hobby shop to pick up some small parts and I happened to ask they guy behind the counter if he was familiar with the Bobcat 50. He thought for a moment and then said, "oh yea, we have one of those". I got goose bumps, then I thought, he must be mistaken. Sure enough he pulled the kit down from the shelf and behold, there it was, it must be DESTINY!!. So to make a really long post short, I bought mine today for $120 plus tax, no shipping. See you in the air......

I have had a large number of requests for the photos of the turbine conversion made on my Bobcat. There are a lot of photos so I have done the following;

I will be posting a "How to " article on my web site.
I have about 8 pages done and am almost finished. I'm down to last of the internal install of the mass of wires cables fuel lines etc. It's a very detailed conversion of the Bobcat for turbine use.

Watch for it soon.

I finally broke down and ordered the Bobcat. I am looking at putting a rear exhaust .60 on it with a pipe. Now for the question, what is going to happen when I extend the exhaust of the tuned pipe 180 degrees???????

ha ha ha ha ha, This is not a DF engine, it is I believe a YS .61 rear exhaust engine. The pipe is just a straight tuned pipe, but i don't think it is a good idea for the exiting hole of the pipe to be pointing towards the front of the plane. I could be wrong, but I think this is going to cause some sort of problem. What I was planning to do is use a piece of copper tubing or something similar to make a U shape exhaust extension. Can I get any takers on if this is going to work or cause a problem.

There's not a lot of room between the rear of the fuse and the engine. You may be able to fab some type of 90 degree elbow and mount the pipe pointing either left or right. I doubt there's room to turn the exhaust 180 degrees and point the pipe to the rear. The stock type header and muffler may be a better choice.

Yeah one fella did a real slick job of routing the header through the fuselage and had the tuned pipe mounted on the belly....he even moulded a nose cone for the pipe to streamline it! Really nice job.........

I think I remember one post where the person used a header from an R/C car tuned pipe to redirect the exhaust. Since these are pushers, all tuned pipes will face forward. I am using a simple rubber deflector, it works but doesn't look very good. Someone else mentioned copper pipe from a harware store. For a YS 60, you may be able to find a Byron pipe (made by Mac's). These were designed for pusher applications. Morris Hobbies may have the Rossi version.

The guy from Mac Products said he is working on a "candy cane" that would turn the exhaust 180 to the back of the plane. He should have it ready in 3-4 weeks for about $30-$40.

I like the way someone did it an previous post they took some clear tubing and drilled through the fuse ran it out the bottom a freind and i have each built one [havent flown yet still 2 cold] he has done his im gettin ready 2 do mine cost was $1 for tubing and some silicone seems like the best and most inexpensive way 2 do it and it doesnt look all that bad

This may be of some interest on the subject of pusher exhausts. This is my Keecat with a side mounted engine and a pitts muffler.

I used a Pitts Muffler on my Bobcat with an OS 46. Worked great (until I was shot down this past weekend).

I'm looking at the Kee-Cat next, I like retracts (but don't have time to work them into another Bobcat, 2 jobs=not enough time).

I do like the Keecat but I can't compare it to the Bobcat since I've never had one. The retracts seem to be pretty good for the money. I fly from a very rough field and have about ten flights on the Keecat. The whole kit is about $200 with the retracts. If you do go with the Keecat, just be aware that the CG seems to be way off in the instruction booklet. I balanced mine an inch and one half forward of where the instructions show it! I don't know how they can be that far off, but they are.

Nice job, I really like what you did. Has anyone looked at mounting their engine inverted? If I do this I will eliminate having to buy a new header for my YS .60FR if I could even find one. If I do invert the engine I will have to make sure that there is enough air movement over the engine so it doesn't overheat.

One more thing, when I test fit the wings the through hole for the wing tube is not centered. I have one wing with a 1/4" gap and the leading edge and the other wing with a 1/4" gap at the trailing edge. Has anyone else had this problem?
