FLASH Air Intakes

Has anybody had trouble with the front tire kicking up grass clippings into the intakes on the Flash?? I have a FOD screen but after three flights it was covered! Any suggestions?

I ordered a small vacuum this morning! Pavement is not always an option! Clean your fuel filter!

I don't know how practical it would be to do this on a Flash, but this is what I did on my BoomerXL.
If you have a really big turbine, might restrict air intake.

Thanks for the suggestion! I did a similar thing on the Flash but the screen is further up inside the intake duct! There is not a good way to put screens right at the intakes without affecting the air flow with whatever framework I put in to hold the screen. The intake duct is a single piece of fiberglass not just an opening in the frame!! The suction at the intakes is pretty substantial! You can hear it even at idle!! If I taxi slowly in the grass it isn't a problem. I was just worried that on takeoff it might get enough to cause the turbine to overheat and shutdown. Bad day!!! I can keep vacuuming it out every flight! Thanks again!

I have a vested interest in this thread as my CompArf Flash is about done and I will be flying it off grass 90% of the time.

I saw Gary Jefferson fly his at Spiderman and I learned few things from him and will incorporate them in my finished product for safe grass flying.

Care to share any of that info!! The grass clippings in the intakes has been my ONLY problem! Not really a problem, YET ! I put my screen in the duct at the point the removeable duct attaches to the stationary duct. The removeable piece actually traps it on the other piece! Works great except for this grass thing. This time of year in Georgia the grass turns brown and small clippings come off whether it has just been cut or not. I have a small vacuum and have started vacuuming it out after flying! I don't see any way to stop it! If the screen was at the front of the duct you could just brush them off but I don't see any way to mount it there without affecting the air flow! I you figure out a way please let me know!! I installed the Jet1A gear and it works great on any terrain!!

i also fly off gras .
i have little to no problems.
i suggest they cut the grass more often to keep it short .
if the grass is cut when it is to long , it will fly around and get sucked in.
most of the time the trouble,s start if the grass is a bit moisture.
so ghost .. what gear did you get?[8D]

and yes we the dutch are grass specialists :D

It is all landing gear related and I will find Garry’s post here and vector you to it.

I have the standard gear system that came with the kit installed. This is what my friend Garry Jefferson is using on his.
It is almost the end of flying season here in Indiana and I’m not sure if I can get a test flight on it this year.

My ultimate goal would be to get your knee action struts and install them for next year. Could you get me the information off line?
