difficulty flying this jet?
 

hello!!! I am very interested in buying a jet. This is the one my eye is on:http://www.hobby-lobby.com/f86.htm

how difficult is this?? I am 15 years old, with some previous experience with rc planes. I can fly a 3- channel trainer-like plane pretty well. Do you think, with help from a software, that I could fly this?? I really want a to fly a jet. So please, give me some advice.

Ok its going to be a little bit faster i got 107mph out of mine
but they a very easy to fly.
Hardest part about this plane is fitting the fan correctly
you should read the instructions carefully at this step of the build to
ensure a perfectly aligned unit.
another tip take out the control wires and lubricate them with WD40
stops them binding.
I think an Australian model shop is offering a complete fan unit for the F86
someone on here might know

The Alfa Mig15 is quite similar and was a nice flyer. My only gripe is that they're made of foam and are subject to hangar and field rash. Be careful launching them, they must be launched straight and level. Transitioning from a trainer and with plenty of stick time on your flight simulator I think you could fly them quite well. Be sure to power the F86 as suggested by Hobby Lobby and you'll have a nice Sunday jet flyer! Cheers...

I would highly recommend going with the Mig first. The way the Mig is setup, it can take off by sliding on the belly. This is a much better way to get it in the air the first few times. A hand launch + a beginner pilot + a brand-new untrimmed airplane = crash...

It is a really nice fly'n plane. Ive had several and they have a good feel in the air. They are rock solid when coming in for landing. Just keep the wings level and land in some grass and you'll be fine. Because it is made of foam it can be prone to dings and hanger rash, but just keep a roll of clear packing tape in your box and you should be able to patch things up at the field. I believe there is a large thread on the electric planes forum that talk about hopping one of these up with brushless motors and lipos. You will love it.

It's a wonderful plane. I did a review on it for a magazine some time back, one of the most glowing reviews I could possibly have given. I have a few hundred flights on mine, a few dings from taking it in and out of the car, but no damage whatsoever from flying.
Mine has the dead standard brushless package from HL, I highly recommend getting exactly what they suggest, nothing more, you will be thrilled with the performance.

Good suggestion on the mig, just to eliminate the hand launch. Not that the Sabre is hard to hand launch, but ANYBODY can mess up a hand launch sometimes.

What a great, great model. Totally fine if you have some aileron experience. If you have NOT had experience with an aileron plane, get somethign with ailerons and practice first, you won't be happy when you dork your sabre otherwise.

sorry to ask more questions but they just keep coming to me!! lol.

does the Mig NEED brushless power?? Can it use brushed motors? If so, would it be better to go brushed at first, so it would be easier to control?? Or would it being under-powered mak it harder to control??
Also, how fast can these jets go straight and level with the recomemded power source? Do I have to have full power on at all times to fly it??

Definitely go with the brushless power. As ET said, with marginal power it will be harder to fly and if you do the Mig, it will take much longer to get off the grass. A brushed motor will also reduce your flight times considerably and a brushed motor won't last long in that application...

With my Christmas money, I plan on buying a new airplane. I plan on buying the ARF version and then adding the electronics i want in later. I already have a crappy swift flyer two channel rc airplane and it sucks. I can fly it and i have flown a 3-channel before once with my uncle. I pan on flying at a huge soccor feild about a mile from my house so the plane cant be too big. There is also a parking lot to land and take of if the plane has wheels.
I have put links below to the planes I am interested in and would like your imput. Also, if none of the planes would be a good choice for me, please recommend one. Remember, I am only 15 so Im not made of money. Please look at the planes below or recommend one. Also, it would be helpfull if you told me why you picked what you did. Thanks a lot!!


CheeseNeggs, I too am a beginner looking to get into flying and I am just wondering why you made the above post in the beginners forum, then when you didn't get the info you wanted you changed the post a little and put it here?

I posted again in this forum because I have previously made post in other online-forums and many of the people said that the jet I want is fairly easy to fly for a beginner. WHen I posted again in the beginers forum, I didnt get the same answers as I did the other sites. I didnt relieze there was a jet forum here at first and decided it would be a wiser choice to post jet questions in a jet-specific forum.

by the way, I have made my choice and i plan on buying this jet, training on a sim, and them flying it. I will see my uncle tonight for thanksgiving and will talk to him about it.

I think the simulator has only very limited value, it's not the same as flying the real plane.
The Huckebein has a good reputation, but I have not flown one myself.

Have flown all three and my preference is
F86 easy build and nice to fly
Mig 15 have to pay attention to fitting the wings, best to fly ( on the radar gun VNE was 113mph and then the wings came off
fus went quite well until it hit the ground)
Huckebien just did`nt like it at all
As ET says all require brushless lipo setup for best performance and long life

the huckebein doesnt require brushless, because it comes with a speed 300. I am going to use the stock brushed setup first when im learning.I may upgrade to brushless later, though.

Being 15, you're probably on a tight budget, but if you want "jet like" performance, brushless motors is the way to go. You don't want an underpowered model! These models are made of foam and are fragile, if its not launched properly it'll become a very useless airplane quite soon. Since Christmas is around the corner ask all your family members to pitch in with one or more components of the model in order to go "brushless".

I've been flying the Alfa Mig 15 all summer great plane
Go with hot sep up from E-flightline.com ... flys great! here is the link http://e-flightline.com/ go to jets area scroll down to the mig
I use a 3c 2220 tanic batt with the Hi max 2025-5300 motor.... about 80 to 90 mph for 8 min.
hand launch can go wrong fast.. don't let it picth up ... I prefer to take off the grass (rog) rise of grass

Main tip is to sand off the piant at wig root, poke pin holes in the foam at root .. wings won't rip off

with my set up it should do around 140 wot
it has a nasty reputation so we shall see when the weather clears

Hey Ken,
I fly the park flyer stuff out by the chruch on the by pass.. there is a huge soccer field right next to it...
there is never any one there and I have had no problems.. I just don't fly sunday morning...lol
