FUTURE ON CANOPY'S---Wow
Ok guy's:
I took my extra Yellow F-18 canopy and wiped it down with future floor wax, and oh my god I cannot believe the difference in the finish. It is like diamond hard finish but not brittle at all. I know that modeler's have been using it for years. Has anyone tryed this. It says no yellowing. I would like to post the shots if someone would like to post it. I could forward it to you. Thanks, Dave R |

Another Future Secret.
The results are mour spectacular if you dip your canopy instead of wiping it. The Cat's outa the bag! Craig |

Hi Guys,
Do you wipe it on after installation or before? Does it effect the gluing at all ? |
Future
It will not affect the gluing, and unless you have a lot of it to dip the whole canopy in you will need to wipe it on,and yes do it before, I have found that if you will make clean sweeps from one end of the canopy to the other in one direction works well, also use a dust clean cloth or you will leave specks in the clear coat. It makes it very hard to scratch once applied. Also do not panic if you blow it. It can be removed by the solution they give you on the back. Don't hold me to that but they say it can. Like the old master say , Practice, Practice, Practice.
I think it looks sweet when done, and thanks Ghost Rider for the page. Dave R |

A few more questions. Do you apply to inside and outside surfaces and does it wear off ?
|
Thanks Ronnie
Thank you CountryBoy:
747, I apply it to both sides, I do not know the long time affects of the product. I do not see why it would wear off. Dave R |

Suppose you were painting a molded in frame? Would you just abraid the area that will be painted after dipping/brushing?
Thanks Mike |
Future
Hi Mike:
I think that would be fine. Tape off the area to keep clean. I glued the whole thing to my frame. That was last night. I used canopy glue and this morning I have a good bond Dave R |

Have any of you guys tinted your canopies with RIT dye and then applied this stuff ? if so, did it bother the tint ?
|
FUTURE ON CANOPY'S---Wow
Or maybe put food coloring in the Future? Will that last?
|
Jermaine Future
Hi Heliboy:
I think since the color dye is in the plastic that a coat of future would hold it there. What ever you do do not mix it with water, it turns it a milky white. Dave R |

Can anyone tell me what SNJ powder is? Number 10 on the link Ben provided talks about using SNJ powder and Future for a rock hard gloss silver finish.

Hello mates!
this one i learnt(along a lot of more usefull information) reading fine scale models: glue your canopy to the airframe, sand with 2000 grit wet sandpaper(donīt worry!!) then mask the airframe and airbrush future over the clear!like magic you will have a cristal clear canopy without a scratch!if you have deep scratches, go withh 600 grit first, than with 1000 and finally with 2000, the scratch will disappear. as far as i know future last long(maybe 5 years) and as itīs an acrylic base iīts not affected by cleaning. try and tell me! see the link bellow tahtīs the canopy of a rafale that iīve built for a client 3 years back: http://rcuniverse.com/attachment.php?s=&postid=159737 regards, fred |

Fred
when you airbrushed Future on the canopy-did you thin the Future down to make it flow thru the airbrush? If you did ,what did you use and to what ratio did you thin it to(2:1-3:1) or what ? Tried to use the airbrush' but it was tooo thick to flow. |
FUTURE ON CANOPY'S---Wow
i really canīt remember!!!!
i think that iīve used alchool or water, sorry, really canīt remember. anyway, nowdays i use 2 part clear, it goes along when i clear shot the plane and itīs more durable, plus you have that awesome glass look! |

Here you go guys -- my Ultra Viper canopy after two coats of clear following sanding with 600 then 1000. Once that was done I waxed it with Zymol, though I am sure any good wax would have been fine. The only problem is that now it is so slippery I can hardly hold it without dropping it.
To tell you the truth I was tempted not to clear the canopy because after sanding with 1000 it had this cool brushed graphite look to it. It would have been very appropriate for the color scheme. Antony |
