I like you,but lighten up.I didn't say it was safe,smart,or prudent,but it is very cool to watch.Also,I'm not so sure I agree with you.Fighter guys do low passes at airshows all the time,and that is condoned.I can shoot a Cat 3 to 300RVR,and actually touchdown on the miss with 225 people behind me,without ever seeing out the window,but some would say a high speed low pass over a runway in the middle of nowhere,VFR,with 2 pilots (instead of 1 in a fighter) is unsafe?I might have to respectfully disagree.I believe you are a retired fed,and I can understand this making you a little uncomfortable,based on your background.In any case,I liked watching it.

I liked watching it too, but I also didn't like watching it, if that makes any sense. I've also flown to Cat III minimums with a couple hundred folks in back but it is always in a very, very controlled environment. This -135R wasn't over a runway, in fact he was damn close to ingesting some serious dust bunnies. This was obviously simply a guy hot dogging - they weren't 50 feet over the runway at 1.3Vs configured and stabilized either if you know what I mean. Now if he's in a tactical fighter with a bang seat and he's not pointing his jet at a crowd, then go wild. If he get's caught or screws up he doesn't take anyone else with him - he just dies or gets a courtmarshall and wastes his countries resources. Like any country can afford such a loss. It's pretty selfish and immature for someone with that sort of responsibility unless there is low level training going on (valid training is good, showing off not always good - the most dangerous phrase used in an airplane is, "Watch this!"). An airshow is an airshow - it's recruitment and it's an accepted, controlled risk.

Typically, when things like this happen the guys usually end up banging in for a demotion when their tricks finally get out of control or they kill someone. I'm on the road right now so I can't post the video of the B-52 crash that unfortunately killed a lot of Daddy's in front of their families at Mountain home Air Base in Boise, ID. It was a tragedy, because everybody was trying to stop the "Safety Director" pilot from killing somebody with all his hot dogging - but he ended up taking everyone with him on his last scheduled flight before retirement.

Maybe we should get this pilot into RC jets instead!!

I don't know maybe that was a takeoff;)........really reminds me of the old SD360 obstacle climb performance[:'(].....just going faster LOL:D
Now I am trying to remember that nutcase that always used to yell if we were any more than 2 degrees pitch up on takeoff......RDG guy...you remember who I mean?....they made him go the shrink and then I heard his medical was pulled or something because I never saw him again. any ideas? Actually I'm a double dipper.. USMC, and now with the FAA. :) I saw no humor in JACKASS the movie either .I'm just an OLD ******* who understands these flying machines are made by the lowest bidder, and Stuff happens.

I was also a bit astonished by the negative feedback received about the other thread. I think we all can agree that this is a very stupid behaviour and should not be rewarded by any means. Still it's a joy to watch because nothing happened (I felt bad when I saw that B-52 crash and knowing the story behind it) About it beeing dangerous I think theses guys knew perfectly what they were doing, it was prepared and well executed. Normally you would stabilize the airspeed and the pitch then fine trim the nose up so that you have to constantly apply down pressure on the yoke to maintain level flight so that if anything happen you just remove any stick input and the plane goes up. It considerably shortens the whole reaction time. But the guys really were low on that pass geez !!

I remember the name,but can't put a face to it.Good for you about JBlue.I heard Tracy Wright is over there also.As for me,after 12 years at NWA,I'm a junior DC-9 capt out of DTW.Bumped off twice.Once after 9/11,and again when NWA declared bankruptcy.I'd be a 757 capt blockholder at the pre 9/11 airline with my seniority.Only upside is I still know how to tune a VOR,and read a map.If you come to Top Gun this year,look me up.Planning to fly a red Mig in Pro-Am.Take care,

Probably will, Have bus will travel;) not to participate but to enjoy the show. I am usually around Bryce and Johnny.

Tu Armagost, Joe Devito, Erik Kudey, Matt Grivener, Paul Atkins, Brent Patterson, Andy Brixner, Paul O'Brien, I know there is a bunch more but can't think of anymore now. Oh I did run into Kurt Aukamp teaching groundschool last month...he was management I think at the old place.

One of my air traffic control co-workers in the air force was stationed at the base that B-52 crashed at, he was in the parking lot watching and the point of impact was about 1500 feet away. It knocked him back on his butt, said he was standing up and next think he knew he was sitting on his butt. Heck of a concussion wave. I've never seen the full footage of the pullup and pitchout the buff driver did but I heard his rolls were pretty steep and this was on a go around, sucking up the gear and throttling up and turning.

Erik, that sucks, you have been outed and you don't even have a buddy here to console you on the -360 shame - HARSH. ;) My wife used to call them, "Breadbox cartoon planes with the squeaky wheels". Where the squeeky wheel part came from I have no idea. That's all right, I "tubed" for a living (BE-1900 *****box) for a while. Good times bro, good times.

Now, I'll give you credit, if you Swined for any length of time (Metroliner, right?), you reeeeeally tubed. I am not worthy! However, I did have the displeasure of sharing the TPE-331 experience in another little gem of a deathtrap. Ahhh, the good ole days.
