Help with Simjet Engine Setup
 

Hi,

I have a Simjet 85 which was running flawlessly, and after many flights decided to change the tubing connected to the fuel and propane. However after I disconnected them I have forgotten which tubing is for which purpose. I have attached a picture of it with the 3 tubing indicated, is it the correct label for the 3 tubing?

Appreciate any help out there.

Hi, You are correct as labelled, T piece on fuel pipe links to elbow on oil feed, elbow fitted to gas.. BTW curious to know why the separate bellmouth since both of mine have it inclusive with the front cover? Mike

Hi Mike,

Thank you very much for your help. Mine is the air start version but I have send it to my friends in Bangkok to modify it to electric start, that's why the mouth is separated. Only problem is that the front cover would have to be enlarged on the inner diameter to fit it in. Any other idea than to cut the cover?

Hi,
I converted one of mine to electric start, simply bought the starter assembly from Simjet, a simple to fit to the original cover, the only slightly difficult thing was accurately marking and drilling the three holes required in the front cover for the standoff legs. If you take a look at their web site the starter is the standard one fitted to their turbines.

starter aligning is not that difficult.
you take off the starter cover (starter itself)
push the motor further in.
place the starter over the compressor nut.
now it will be aligned.
draw with a small marker around the legs position.
mark also where the legs are positioned!

drill the holes , mount and done!.

Henry, your tubing assignment is correct.

Digitech is has provided the best method for starter mounting alignment.

Hi Digitech and Kerry,

Thank you very much for the tip and reconfirmation on the setup. Have completed the assembling and should be ready to take on my XL by end of this month I hope.

This engine has been serving me so well that I just transfer it from my Kangaroo to Rookie and then my XL. I'm pretty confident it will drive the XL with authority though I'm not expecting full out verticle.
