7 Channels enough?

Hey Guys,

I would love to switch to a spectrum DX-7

Do you think 7 channels are enough to fly turbines?

or would it be smart to wait for a more capable radio?

I currently use a JR 9303 and I love it, I want to transition to Turbines soon.

Thanks

RE: 7 Channels enough?

depends what plane you are flying ... for me 9 - 10 is a necessary minimum. Here are some basic functions to keep mind of: ( of course some could be mixed with primary controls )

- throttle
- ailerons - elevator
- rudder
- flaps
- retracts
- brakes

that’s 7 right there ...

others you could use ..

- another aileron channel for crow mix ability
- separate nose steering channel
- airbrakes
- smoke
- aux turbine channel ( on some engines )
- canards ( on some types of airframes)
- tank/bomb drop
- the list goes on ......

1 throttle
2 elev
3 ail
4 rudder
5 retracts
6 wheel brake
7 Insert what you want here. (Eurofighter would be canards, kangaroo would be speed brake) others could be flaps.

You get the idea.

i looked at the dx-7 yesterday.will work with some jets if you use alot of mixes or y-leads .but i like to have my flaps on a sliding switch so i can play with them on landing.no switch on the dx-7.

7 channels is enough, however you don't get the choice of having a slider switch for flaps or breaks. But for basic functions you'll be ok. I like to put my rudder on an aux channel and slave it to the wheel which is on the rudder channel. You won't have the ability to do mixes like that or similar. That would be the only difference.

anyone know why futaba doesnt have this technology yet? 14z would be great if had spread spectrum

7 channels will just do it. But I'm with Voy...

for non proportionnal channels like smoke, lights , airbrakes....you can use a channel Xpander http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=JRPA905

for multiple servos on other channels a matchbox will be perfect, the DX7 will fit the bill for many planes!

I think the DX7 is a good starting point for us to get used to the 2.4 ghz radio. I will be using mine in a big IMAC prop plane (it may get a turbo prop later) and then it will be installed in a rookie style jet. As more knowledge is developed, may be will use it for other more complex jets. I think the future is here now, we just need at least 14-16 channels!!!!!!

WITH THE DX IN A JET YOU CAN SAVE A CHANNEL BY USING BEHOTEC RETRACTS COMES WITH A VALVE THAT OPERATES ON A THREE POSITION SWITCH . UP=GEAR UP, MIDDLE =GEAR DOWN...DOWN =BRAKES
JUST MY 2 CENTS.....................MK

RE: 7 Channels enough?

Right. Also, you can have a servo Y'ed to the down elevator for brakes, but one has to be careful with this set up when landing. So, there are options and most modelers will be very creative.

I'm going to hold out until they come out with a DX-9 or DX-10.

Got my DX-7 Last week, just installed it in a Minnow Racer. Performs great on the bench, installation was good.. Will put it in a turbine plane this spring.. I will use Y-harnesses or a matchbox to get what i want done. Russ

Just flown my DX7 with an "how high" module to 3,075 feet above the ground and still had control.
It's going into my Reaction 44 in a few days. I'll fly it at Desert Jet Storm in Phoenix in February.

I'm waiting for the module that plugs into the back of my 10X (hint hint)

RC_Man,
Looks like they are getting close. http://www.xtremepowersystems.net/xtremelink.php

It's not clear when they will have product available.
