Bobcat flying weight
what is the actual flying weight of a bobcat and bobcatxl and if anyone knows the weight of a kangaroo.
Thanks |
Bobcat weight
Can vary hugely depending on a number of factors - including which engine you use, whether you Monokote the wings & stab or glass them, how much paint you apply (lots, in my case!), how much excess glue you use, and even which servos you use.
If I remember correctly, Tony F. told me that his std Bobcat, with Monokoted wings, came out at under 18 lbs dry. Mine, with the same engine (RAM 500), glassed wings and a few gallons of paint, came out over 20 lbs. Even so, that slightly overweight little sweetheart lands so slowly that anything other than a greaser deserves a swift kick in some painful area ! ;-) I haven't finished building the first XL that I'm working on just now, so can't be sure of its weight. I'm guessing that it will be about 2 lbs heavier than the std Bobcat due to the larger engine that will be used, slightly larger glass parts (fuz & booms), extra fuel tank, bellypan, etc. Regs, Gordon |

Unless I'm mistaken, Tony F's standard BobCat with the RAM 500 came in at 16 lbs. 4 oz. dry.
My XL with a RAM 750 PLUS checks in at 19 lbs. 4 oz. dry, with six colors of PPG Concept and a clearcoat. Harley Condra BVM REP RAM REP Buy American!!!!!! |
Sorry Harley
My next one may be that light, but my current standard BobCat with RAM 500 weighs 17.6 pounds without fuel. I made no real effort to keep it light other then the monokote on the wings and stabs.
Got five more flawless flights yesterday after work. Brings the total to 217 on the airframe and engine. |
Sorry about that
Tony F.
I recall now that 's what you said. I was questioning the 16-4 number at the time I responded, and thought that the difference (16-4 vs. 19-4) seemed way too much... It feels alot lighter than my XL. The one on my bench (Paul's std.) hopefully will come in around 18+ a couple or so with paint. I built the wing center section last night in three hours complete, less skins. Harley |
217 flights...

I finished the BC and put the first flight on it on September 30 last year. The Bandit first flew on April 16 last year and now has 177 flights. The MiG's first flight was on May 27, 2000 and it now has 246 flights. So you can see I've been flying the BC a lot.
I'm still flying with the original tires, although I have to admit the mains are getting close to the rims! I just got an extra set of tires the other day. Guess it's time to try some of those tire changing tips. |
