Just a little quiz for the RAF buffs. Which jet fighter was the last one built 100% by the britts???

Lightning, Tornado was European, Typhoon ditto. ! However some air forces use the Hawk a sa point defence, or ground attack fighter and that is a purely British design.

If you mean a pure air defence fighter designed as such from the start, it was the Lightning. However in the more general sense of fighter the Harrier, Sea Harrier and Hawk are much more recent than the Lightning, the Lightning ceasing production years before the Hawk and Sea Harrier started.

Worth a look if you're into Lightnings...as is a trip to both Cosford and Coventry museums. They have the prototype at Cosford (bloody ugly thing) and an ex-Saudi twin seater and Ian Black's F6 at Coventry.

Here are some pics of our Mick Reeves Lightning flies very well on a JC P120.
We fly it at the former OCU for the Lightning, which is the now sadly closed RAF Coltishall Norfolk UK.
We are very interested in the forthcoming CD Jaguar, they served at Coltishall for thirty years.

Phil,

I really do wish you'd stop putting pictures of your Lightning on websites...makes me feel ever more guilty that I I've had #1 of Mick's kits untouched since the day he delivered it to me at Abingdon...4 years ago! The photo on Mick's site of yours and Colin Strauss' together has to be one of the best jet pics I've seen.

Alongside the A1 trunk road, in the Stamford area, there is a dead one. How it got there i dont know, but it appears to be there for the kids to play on, so as you can imagine, it's in a right sorry state, It's on it's wheels, but full of graffiti & no glass. Personally i would not allow my kids to play on it, as it must be fraught with dangers, not least, falling off a wingtip. The last time i saw it was about 5yrs ago, & the nosewheel had collapsed, i hope no kids were under it at the time. Knowing our present nanny society, where everything we do is considered dangerous, & the health & safety brigade, & the "sue sue sue" people, i'd be surprised if it's still there. Truly a sad end to a once magnificent aeroplane. Ray.

The Lightning is a love affair with both my Brother (who owns the model) and myself.
We used to see them at Air shows many years ago at Colt. Everybody knows a Lightning take off
they point their hands straight up.

If you are not going to build the Lightning how much do you want for it.
My Brother was talking of building another one just the other day.

Have you seen the CD Jaguar, if you have what do you think of it.

Hi Phil,

I do intend building the Lightning...am down to 3 other projects before I start it so, maybe within 10-15 years!! I don't think that anybody who saw a stream take-off of Lightnings would ever forget the sight (and sound!)

I haven't seen a CD Jaguar in the flesh - it'll be nice to see one flying. And then there's the Buccaneer...one of which I know is being done at the moment and should be at the jet meets later this year (isn't someone prepping a 'real' one to fly soon...forget where it is..Scampton, maybe? That'll be a sight to see...last time I saw one airborne was at the Carlilse Airshow in 1993!)

The Buccaneer another classic British jet.
It would be great to see a model plus full size on the UK jet scene.

If we have a CD Jaguar the nose will be changed to the chisel type.

Hopefully our paths might cross at the forthcoming flying season.
