Canopy Tinting Techniques???

Posting this on the jet forum may be just a little bit out of place, but I want to tint the canopy for my C-ARF Eurosport and would like any available advice on the best way to do it.

I intend to use Rit dye (gold). Have heard rumors that some people use a salt water prep bath, others use vinegar. What is the purpose of this and how is it done???

What is the max. recommended water temp. for the dye bath to prevent deforming the canopy (someone told me 140 degrees)??? How long should the canopy remain in the dye bath for maximum absorption??? If I want it darker, do I repeat the dye process???

Thanks in advance for any advice guys.

RE: Canopy Tinting Techniques???

I have used rit dye with good success, the hotter the water the betterand the shorter the dye process will take. test scrap pieces of the canopy to determine what is the hottest it can handel. to get a darker shade you will need to leave the part in longer, once removed the dying process stops.

Make sure that you mix doesn't deform the window. I had a set of Hirobo UH1-B windows return to their origional state of Beeing FLAT Plastic sheet.
It took 9 Months to get another set.

You can also use the spary on window tint used by rc car guys. It works great on lexan and other polycarbonates. It is fuel resistant and with a little care given to prep, looks great. Before applying wash with mild soap and water solution. The brand that I have always used is Pactra. Make sure you get the one for lexan bodies not plastic models like the one sold by testors.
PS. Spray on after canopy is painted and apply to the inside of canopy.
