Any opinions? I've had some people say it is great, other pretty credible fliers indicate it is problematic.

I would not fly a jet without one!

I consider it to be cheap insurance

Check the archives, there was a couple of threads about using a header tank OR a UAT. I personally have used both a 2 oz header tank and a UAT with the same good results. UAT is about $50, 2 oz tank fron bvm USED to be around $15. If you use UAT, follow directions of purging.

UATs are awesome but pricey. Go here for an alternate solution that is bullet proof: http://www.jetpilots.org/how_to_buil..._pleated_p.htm

Woketman, that looks terrific and I am going to try it out! looks like the older fuel filters that used to get installed right in the carburetor. I know, the younger guys are going "carburetor.............what's that!?"
LOL!
Thanks for the great tip!

Filters

Woketman,
I did the car filter mod like you posted the link for and it turned out great!:D
One more question, would these car filters be good as filters in the fuel tanks as well? I mean, do you think it would be ok to build another one and use it in the main fuel tank as a filter as well?
THANX!

Do you mean a fuel filter on your ground tank? I think that would work great, but I like more area so that I do not have to clean it as often as my Jet A source is a dirty tank at the local airport. I flew a bunch of gallons through mine at Fla Jets.

Actually I meant use one for the tank in the plane. Do you think it would be good to use car filters for our turbine fuel tank filters? PST recommends using an OS filter which is what I will get but I like to make things so I was curious to know how good a car filter would work.
Thanx!

Well, normally I simply use it in the header as a bubble prevention device and use a Festo filter for the fuel near the pump, but I guess you could count on the clunk to be the filter too.
