Help finding proper DF unit & engine
I aquired a House of Balsa ducted fan F-86 today. The instructions show a Midwest RK-20B fan unit and a K&B 3.5 engine. Are these items avaiable or is there a suitable alternative? Will a JHH Turbax I fan unit work? Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks |

Thanks Ksonn, if I remember right, the turbax fan will just fit in the HOB F-86 but it will be tight. And it will fly it good too.If you want to go with the RK 20,you may find one for sale out there-plus it is going to be hard finding a KB.21 or a OS.25 df engine but I'm sure there are some for sale someplace. Help finding proper DF unit & engine
Jack Jet,
Thanks for the info. I purchased a Turbax I fan unit with an OS 46 ducted fan motor. When I receive it I will try to mount it in the fuse. If it doesn't fit, I will look into getting a JHH F-86. This will be my first DF plane. I have been flying gaint scale WWII birds. If you have any suggestions, I will gladly listen. Once again, thanks. |
DF for HOB F-86
Ksonn,
just build it straight, light and strong-and if you can not beam mount the turbax fan-you can radially mount it instead. It should fly around 140-150mph-and go ahead and install flaps. Jackjet |
F-86
You can fit the turbax in it I did it several years back, with the turbax and K&B 7.5 it took off with more gusto but it wasn,t that much faster than the kress jets with the .25 about 10 to 15 mph since the fuse cheater hole and side blowin doors can only pass so much air, I to just purchased another one from E-bay as well as a new K&B 3.5 and a fan unit also new there are a lot of these still out there, total cost was $350, just keep in mind that the kress fan unit is all self contained eng. fan and fuel tank, the .46 will be much more hungy for fuel and you can only get a small pair or tanks in it' flights will be short these are great flying jets with a top speed of about 110 mph, a little more if you are building the newer retract model so dont' give up on it, they build real easy, Fastlash- Eatonvlle Washington
