Question on servo mounting
 

How are most of you mounting your servo's on turbines now?
Still using the grommets or just hard mounting them? I was thinking about eliminating the grommets to get rid of any of the slop, it seems to me that JMP sells a servo mount like this.

Yes, I'd like to know as well. I'm installing the rudder servos in my HotSpot in the aft fuselage, and using the BVM flat mounts. it would seem that for a tight control with no slop, hard mounting would be the best, as there's almost no vibration that will go into the servo with a turbine.

The limited info no the BVM package doesn't say one way or the other.

I'm pondering this also for the elevons.

Any thougnts?

I have never used grommets in a turbine since 1997

The most vibration you get is from the ground roll, and this can be significant especially if the tires get old and out of round. 50 mph on 3 inch tires can get bumpy!

on the tree jets i have, i have used both methods. on the last jet, Skymaster Hawk, most of the surfaces control servos are hard mounted, but the rest have rubber mounts and gromets.

I always use grommets........but now you got me thinking....is there realy a need for them in jets ? :D

No grommets.-
Normally I use 4-40 flat heat screw to hold the servos in place.

I personally don't think you'd go wrong by USING the grommets, etc in All planes. After all the plane is subjected to Turbulance in the air, rough takeoffs and landings, bouncing around in the back of your truck/van while driving to the field, etc. This even applies to electrics and sailplanes.
My motto is: Be kind to your radio gear! I even soft mount the switch harness. I don't want a broken switch connection, stripped gear or cracked component in the receiver to cause my model to crash into the ground or pits. Why take the chance.
