Duralite Users !
HI,
I have been flying Duralite in all my jets till now. Right now I have 2 X 4000mA Rx packs PPD-07404's which seem to be a problem Mfg Date Mar7 - 2005 and June 21-2004 Both have gone thru only 24 and 30 charge cycles each. Both the packs come off charge at 8.1 to 8.12V (Black lead) With a 1 amp load the voltage drops to 7.1V (Black lead) The instructions state 8.2V fresh off the charger and 7.5V (black lead). Are these batteries safe to use ? Is there any other way to establish the capacity ? All my jets are configured with a single 4000mA Rx pack therefore there is no redundancy if it fails. If stop fly voltage is 6.9V with a 1amp load and freshly charged batteries show 7.1v with 1amp load there is very little margin. Also although instructions state about 6hrs for a full charge the LEDs on the charger do not go off for atleast 10hrs - Is this normal ? Nandan |

Nandan a lipo is full at 4.2 volts so it should be 8.4 for 2 cells i think you have a balance problem between the 2 cells. the load is normal , get a charger that counts whatever goes in. use a balancer after about 10 cycles. |

Get a West Mountain unit and load test your batterys, that will give you total capicity

I've always used the duralite charger.... am looking into getting a decent charger, what do you guys reccomend? Shultz, Orbit, or Triton??? Im not an electrics kind of guy, just go with what works.. Thanks

Luis, Triton works great for the LIIon's we use and it's fairly inexpensive. I charge all of my lions exclusively with a Duralite charger, including the TBM brand, no issues yet, but I'm only about 500 flights into Liions, I know there are some in here who have over a thousand flights on Ion batts, it's easy to rack them up when you're getting 8 flights to a charge.

Duralite's have the 'safe charge system' and if you charge at higher then 400 mAh you'll blow the circuit, they also have a built in balance charger so balancing isn't necessary.
i was having problems with mine dropping to 7.1 under a 1A load and it turned out the connection from my loader was corroded. try the plug from your charger in the load tester and see if your readings change. kc |

I have found this statement to be incredibly accurate regarding Lithium Ion Batteries regardless of manufacturer. That being said, for whatever reason, I have found TroyBuiltModels Batteries to have less of a failure rate than Duralite, and I don't know why. |

I 100% use the duralte charger, although one of the ports on one of my three duralite chargers failed, and I don't know why, but read that other people had the same experience with their durlite chargers, so I didn't make it an issue.
When Duralite batt's were coming out 2 or 3 years ago, I invested a grand in them johnny on the spot at FJ. I have owned 20 to 30 duralite packs, and 10 to 15 of the troy built. Have not had the troy builts fail yet, in two years of use. I charge the troy built on a duralite charger. FWIW, I call a failure a fresh charged pack reading 7.4 under load, or zero voltage in or out. |
