Forgot-Gordon your Hunter is one of the most impressive/beautiful planes to watch in the sky. |

RE: BUTTONWILLOW THE 8TH-9TH-10TH IT'S ON!!!
Hi Joe,
The weather was great, very nice on Friday, maybe 80-85F, maybe 5 degrees hotter on Saturday (it still felt room temp in the shade). Joe McB had his megabuck cam pointed at someone the whole time so there is a lot of evidence out there to come! Billy had a great pit setup for me and Rob. Thanks again Billy! It was great seeing Raf, Scott, Doug (musical director!), Joe McB, Hal, Mark, Ian, Gordon, Bob W, Rob, Joe C, Dave and anyone else I missed. Friday BS session after dark was a highlight for me. As for the full scale traffic, it was fun and it was drama (told you), I might humbly suggest for everyone to drop it and urge Joe McB to get the pictures up , that should stop the jawboning. Bottom line. I hung out with good friends for a day and a half, got maybe 15 flights in and my plane is still in one piece. On Saturday, I got home in time to take my family to dinner and have time on Sunday with them. Life is good. PS, no crashes when I left, whatever you say, West Coast can fly! See you next time. |
RE: BUTTONWILLOW THE 8TH-9TH-10TH IT'S ON!!!
Hi Joe,
It was fairly hot ... forecast was for about 95 degrees, but it felt a bit hotter. Kinda drained the energy out of you, so that when you're sitting in the shade contemplating going out to fly, a little voice keeps saying "Are you NUTS ???" I did find a new use for my "blower" that I use to help my turbines cool down - shove it up my T-shirt and that fast air blowing over my sweaty back feels like heaven :D I put in fewer flights than I had planned (only 11 over the 1 1/2 days), but had a ton of fun. It's not how many flights I get, or how much money I spend at the event that matters, it's the good times hanging out with the greatest bunch of guys one could hope for. Joe McBride did have his camera there, and I believe he took a bunch of photos. He may be having difficulty getting them off his camera though, as Dave and Jimmy took some of "those" shots (you know the kind I mean - you've been there, suffered that, and have the scars to prove it), and it's altogether possible that the camera refused to work again after that. Joey C's awesome Tucano maidened, and he flew his nicely weathered L39 a few times too, so I'm looking forward to some nice pics of those. A nice mix of other aircraft and flights too, including at least 3 F4's, a 4-ship demo of Flash's (I don't care for the close-up profile of the fuselage, but those jets look good in the air and fly very nicely), A4's, Billy's ever impressive A10, some Boomers, A10X, Matt's hotrod Stingray, etc., etc. For me, it was a perfect sized outing - not an ultra-busy event, but enough guys to shoot the breeze with when you didn't feel like flying for a while. I hope to hit the Willow again by mid to end of July. Wish it could be sooner, but there's other stuff to do inbetween since I want to keep my better half happy too. Hope my schedule fits in with any plans you make to come out & visit, as it's always a pleasure to meet up with ya. Gordon |

RE: BUTTONWILLOW THE 8TH-9TH-10TH IT'S ON!!!
What it is all about-the two days were the best. Weather was good (a bit hot for Gordon though). Like Matt said, the BS session late into the night Friday was perfect. The food was top notch (thanks Hal, Mark, Billy , and Doug the brewmaster). I think that there were about 25 planes there give or take. Never was a time when a Flash wasnt up. Raf was up all the time with one of the F4s or the 18 (when he wasnt cussing gear doors). Ray managed to get a Tam Cougar, and 2 F18s on top of and in a Scion Xb(damm wish I had a pic of that). Joeys Tucano was just a wonder to watch and that L39 is amazing. Again cant say enought about how great Gordons Hunter looks in the air.Really want to thank Bob Wilcox and Matt for all the help with technical questions on Saturday. Thanks Smoking Joe for letting us use your camera rig-looking forward for some of the pics. A special thank you to the BARKS guys for letting us take over the field. I am beginnign to like these little (right little, I have been to full ralleys with less flying) informal get togethers much more than the big ones. Best of all I took three and came back with three.
I have left alot out BUT IT WAS A GREAT FRIGGGGING TIME!!!!!!!! Scotty R. |

To all the guys at the Willow this weekend,
Thanks for allowing my brother and I to share the sky with some propeller planes. The closest I can say that I come to jets right now is flying my PT-26 with the O.S. 91 Ducted Fan engine in it......Does that count? I think my brother got about 14 flights in which is the most he has flown over his total time. He has only been flying for about 4 months now.....now he wants a jet. I got personally two flights in. I just enjoyed watching everyone work and play. I wish we could have stayed and visited with everyone on Saturday night, but we had to get back home due to Bryan having to work Sunday morning. The 3-1/2 hour drive each way is long, but it was well worth it. I hope it is a little cooler next time though. For us "large boned people" , the heat is our enemy...so is a # 1 at Mcdonalds but I will not go there.....hehehehe Nice meeting you Smokin Joe, Ducky , Bob W and everyone else. You guys are a great bunch of guys. For those that were not there, you missed a awesome show of R/C aircraft and fullsize. Best thing is .......it was relaxing. thanks MONGO |
