Everyone behold what happens if you trust anyone at all in this industry.


Back story:

So a few months back after some talk with Eric Clap from JetCentral about a few things, we got started talking about our JetMach.
We talked how we were looking into several ARF options we had been thinking about.
Well Eric had a "friend" in Thailand or somewhere like that that he had been working with on a few things.
He asked me if we would like to get a quote from his friends. He promised these guys were different, no rip offs blah blah blah.

Well Eric needed a kit, or plans. So we sent him a kit.

A little time goes by and Eric comes back with a quote. The quote seems a bit on the upper side for what the model is. Basically I didn't think this plane had a market for the amount required to sell to recoup the costs.

Flash forward to a few weeks ago I talk to Eric and he asks if the deal is a go, I told him no and explained why.
He said he understood, and I asked him to ship me the kit back before Austin Jets and I would do a giveaway while I was there.
Well that was like pulling teeth and of course the kit still has not shown up.


Well guess what folks, Troy Built Models has a new turbine trainer coming out soon.
Yes you heard it here first.

Everyone, please remember this post when it hits the market.

I don't agree with that statement at all! I want to hear from Eric what his side of the story is.

If this is true, it is truly discouraging!

FWIW, I know both of these guys, and to me, there must be a mis-understanding.

BTW the JetMach was designed in 2002, it wasnt a knock off of anything

And just so you know, it's not a coincidence that they have this model coming out and Eric had our kit and plans.

You dont like the plane, I could care less.
This plane has a very specific purpose and it achieves it perfectly.
Yes alot of planes look nicer, this one has one intention.

This information was turned over to me.
This was going on behind our backs.

Maybe they'll call it the MachJet, to throw people off suspecting it is a mostly copied JetMach design.
Then again, it's not on the TBM website, so maybe its a one-off. :eek:

ronnie, first i think this is the apppropriate forum for this issue. second, i know eric, and he is a stand up guy. if he did get you a quote overseas as the two parties discussed, then he did his part. the problem here is most likely the manufacture he shopped yours and limey bob's model too has decided to copy it anyway. that is out of eric's hands. he too may have learned a lesson in who you can and cant trust. i dont put this on eric unless i see him marketing them and i dont believe i will. lastly, the reason this is in the appropriate forum is so modelors can know who is a stand up company and who isnt, so we as stand up modelors know who to support and who to shun. so let me be the first to say, if troy built is knocking off your model because they gave you a quote and you decided not to go with them, then i will never do business with that company ever!!!!!! but i will need to see if they are for sure going to copy the jetmach and sale it. i will wait to see. barry
