Tube fitting
 

Hi,
Help. Is there any way to temporarily soften gas, air and fuel tube to make it easier to fit onto nipples. I suffer with weak wrists and am having great problems fitting out my latest model, especially when working inside the fuselage for example.

Warm it with a heat gun just enough to allow it to slip over the fitting barb.
You can wipe a small amount of Vaseline on the fitting to reduce the friction.

Instead of using vasoline, I use CA kicker and spray on both parts. Slides on easy and evaporates in a little while.

Yah, I would avoid vaseline.

Stick the end of the tube in your mouth and chew on it a few times. The moisture, warmth, and chewing temporarily softens the end. Also a little bit of saliva reduces the friction.

Find your pointy nose pliars.

Push the tube on to the pliars and heat it up at the same time. Boiling water will do.

Now open the pliars to stretch the tube.

Works for me.

I use the old orange handle "ice pick" that Byron used to include in their kits. Heat it up by laying the tip on a monokote iron set at 350 degrees, push it into the end of the tubing and leave it there for 10 seconds. After putting the tubing over the nipple I wait at least 5 minutes for the tubing to cool down and then safety wire everything.

For larger tubing I use an awl the same way.
