PPG 2060 Question

I sprayed this clear on my A-4 today with mostly good results. the stabs, hatch, nose section,cockpit and all the small parts such as the control surfaces are dead flat. Just what I wanted. I misted on the 2060 as recommended. The problem is that I went a little heavy on the wings and fuse. The result is that these parts are a bit shiny compared to the rest. I mixed it 6 parts 2060, 1 part hardner and 6 parts reducer. The ratio is not the probem but rather my technique. The wings and fuse application went down wet. Short of wet sanding these and re-spraying them is there anything I can do to just dull them a bit? I have heard of 0000 steel wool but do not know where to buy that or if that is the answer. Any other suggestions?

I use a fine scotch brite scuff pad, instead of steel wool.

With those ratios the finish came out allright Dom? I mixed "6:1:1" in term's of "2060 : Reducer : DX61". This is what is recommended on PPG's docs. Any hoo, scotchbrite or steel wool will work fine. Sometimes the Scotchbrite pads can be hard to find.

The trick to this stuff is that the surface you are spraying has to be dry. I dont mean dry to the touch but just so you dont see the wetness of the prior coat. I had the same problem. To fix it I waited till the next day. I mixed up another batch and sprayed 1 light coat. Approx 15 to 20 minutes later when the wetness was gone I sprayed 1 more light coat and it was completely flat. This stuff works great but you can not put it on heavy. The more you put on without the wetness going away the glossier it gets.

I think I am going to mist on another light coat or two on the parts that I am not happy with. When I can finally get to painting it it will have been 8 days since the initial application. Is that a concern? My plan is to simply wipe the plane down with alcohol and then a tack cloth before shooting the clear.

The instructions say 6:1:1 ....is that what is best to use or the 6:1:6 as stated in the beginning of this thread. I am going to paint my jet Monday.

After sitting that long you need to at least scuff with a gray scotch brite,but it would be better to sand with 600-800 to remove any dirt or orange- peel you may have.Like stated before between coats give it plenty of time 20-30 minutes to flash off.Putting it on to quick can result in a little more gloss.
