Klett Wheels

Hi All,
I saw a friend today who had a pair of Klett Nosewheels in Aluminium hubs (sorry US english ALUMINUM!!) just perfect for my latest model. but he has sold them to another modeller.
They were 1 3/4" diameter (or 45mm) .. I have googled Klett and wheels and cannot find an address or anything for Klett on the web....Can anyone provide company details.. The nose wheels were made for an Eric Mey Intruder kit and apparently Larry Tudor may have been invovled in some way? Can anyone help?

best regards
Dave

I wish I could still find these wheels. I've tried to no avail over the past year. They were perfect for nosewheels or even main tires for EDF's with no brakes. They are well suited for scale tires on jets and are sturdy enough for the job.

What is different about the Klett wheels that you could not use another manufacturer's wheels? I am sure you can find 1.75" aluminium wheels without brakes.

John,
I really need a photo of Billy G's wheels to describe this ....But the crown of the tires is square (not round like most model shop aircraft wheels) and the hubs of the tyres have all the drillings simulating tie-bolts and rims like on a fullsize boeing 737 classic wheels... sorry can't be more precise than that....They are a very scale shape wheel the rubber is hard and durable..and they would look scale on the nose of my new bird...

cheers
Dave

Klett may be Ed Klett of Dallas.TX. Ed was a mold maker that did work for EK Radios. He later produced servo mechanics, plastic hinges and other R/C hardware under his name. I wasn't aware of wheels but could be. I will inquire with friends who live there.

We have that shape of tire - Rim can be done to look however you want - I've never heard of the particular one you mention though in Aluminum - Klett did a lot of plastic stuff as mentioned in the previous post - including wheels/tires, but they were a round tire in any of the sizes I know of.

RE: Klett Wheels

I have found them very useful for smaller jets, have Klett wheels on all my EDF's, I have dual 1" Kletts on a EJF F-18, they really help on the looks department with the hub holes and the flat threads. The only place I seem to always find them at is Grave's RC in Orlando, I fly to Florida at least once a year, everytime I stop at Grave's and buy a few, I have found I can never have too many of them...

Hi Dave,

I have used Klett wheels on a Bandito a few years ago. They were the only ones I could find that were thin enough to suit the thin wing. I found mine at Graves R/C in orlando.

Hi Guys thanks for the info,
I think if i go to Florida jets some time and make a trip to graves..This could turn out to be thee most expensive sets of wheels ever obtained for a model jet!!I think i'll just get them from Eric Rantet if he still has stock of 1/9th Rafale wheels.
Maybe one of you British guys off to Florida Jets could pick up some in Graves for me?

Well if you do, they will probably be distorted, bent, full of holes and would not fit anything else. . . . . . Something like the Raf kit . . . . Pure rubbish, can't wait to get the same model OFF my work bench. . . . . . [:'(]

Now now David be nice!
Or the moderators may destroy my thread before i get my wheels!
I think your meant to say , this laser cut beauty goes together very easily and will probably fly hands off without any trim,
all in all a satisfying and quick build machine...with only the highest quality wood and composites used throughout.

Hi David

You've seen the nosewheels I got from Glennis Aircraft, and they will make anything you want. Excellent quality, and perfect scale.

The Klett wheels you mention used to be popular, and I have a few pairs in the workshop, but mainly used for tailwheels for WWll warbirds etc. I do not know if they are still trading, as I haven't seen any reference to them for ages.

As for jetting across the pond just to attain the record for the most expensive wheels in the world, save your money, and the environment, and get them over the net, and then you can spend the money saved, to buy a ring or something.

Yours...........from the desert

Ian

RE: Klett Wheels

Klett makes/made the best tail wheels and tail wheel assemblies for giant scale aircraft that anyone could find anywhere. They are/were based in Texas somewhere but supposedly they shut down maybe 3 or so years ago for some reason.

I don't know if they are still in business but they sure did make great stuff.
