Years ago, some well known DF Pilots and RC DF model A/C were involved in movies such as Flight of The Intruder and Iron Eagle. With the transition to turbines, are the movie studios still using RC model A/C in their movies or are fighter jets now computer generated for the big screen.

Didn't Jason Somes fly one of the planes for the "Aviator"........seems to me it was the twin, but not sure......

The flight of the pheonix's C119 is a model too.

Sommes was the H1 Racer as I recall.

The pilot of the goose was from England, all electric motors, and the wingspan was like 30 feet, they wanted someone that had been flying that size airplane.

On the second take off, the fuse had a split in it and it had like 50 gallons of water in it from the report I got. Pretty incredible.

Sommes also flew the U2 in the movie JFK, as I recall they had two of them identicle with 120's in it, like first production 120's. One of the models wings folded, they were glad they had 2!

What I like, is the models they used in Star Wars! Some of them are 8 feet long, and on private display at Skywalker Ranch, which is shown clearly on Google Earth, check it out, it's pretty remote place.

Oh yes...just remembered...I am told that the P51's on the beginning of Band of Brothers were large models filmed in the UK.

Also in Empire of the Sun.

Tad Krzanowski & Bob Wilcox did L-39's using the original Golden West turbines for the James Bond "Tommorrow Never Dies" movie. Tad still sells a variation of this model via his Golden West Models shop. Bob & Tad were partnered in the movie special effects business there for awhile. Tad has a Technical Achievement Academy Award (Oscar). Info on his web site.
