Wing Skids
I need some wing skids and I always used the nice ceramic ones from TamJets. Unfortunately he doesn't stock those anymore.
The only other thing I am familiar with are the ones from BVM that are Carbon Fiber and wear down. Does anybody have some unique ideas on something else to use that isn't too ugly? Thanks, BC |
RE: Wing Skids
I have used the carbon ones and like them. I have also used a piece of cable tie painted to match finish. I either ca them on or use poly ply counter sink screws to hold them on. Good Luck Dan

Hey BC, I have your solution to avoid wingtip scrapes... I'm not sure what they are called, or where you purchase them (see picture), but I know how they work. You attach one of them to your transmitter via a cable, and when the wingtip is about to touch the mechanism will automatically right the wings so as to avoid contact.
I've seen the mechanism in action and it seems to work.:D |

I'm sure alot of people have seen Dave's "unit". Don't know if I wanna see it work though:D |

RE: Wing Skids
LMAO Joe,
Yep , seen that product in action (Thankfully, definately not the unit![:'(]) However, I believe its one of those California propositions that does not allow its sale outside the state of California. Only the occasional out of state demonstration :D Otherwise John Redman would would have it advertised on the Horizon website.:D How is that fancy Bandit doing? BC |
RE: Wing Skids
Mark, I can make you some stuff up on the machine, just draw on a piece of paper what you want and fax it to 707-929-1766, for you buddy, free of charge :)
Feel free to draw out a couple of different designs if you want. |
RE: Wing Skids
Thanks Sean.
I know you have that fancy mill running there. I guess you mean to cut it out of CF plate. Is that correct? or do you have some other materials? Mark |
RE: Wing Skids
I would suggest G-10

RE: Wing Skids
I would suggest diamond. It is very hard. :)

RE: Wing Skids
I have a couple of the ceramic skids I bought from Rob Janiger when they were his. Today we were talking about these. He brought up an interesting idea. What if you could get come ceramic, ie old toilet or cookware , and pulverise it into a dust or so. Then you could mix that with epoxy or heck, even CA and you would get a skid that is very tough.
These ceramic skids are real tough. They practically scratch the runway.;) I think I will try this method and see what the result is. Might be worth a try since it looks like now one makes them anymore. Billy |
RE: Wing Skids
Thought of that idea already but ther eare so many types of ceramic materials. I really don't think the toilet type will help much....if you can pulverize it then that kinda defeats the purpose of having strength.
I was looking at types. Alumina and I thik the right one would be Silicon Nitride for fracture resistance however I don't really know that much about it. |
