JetBike
Hello, i'm new to the forums. I'm building a jet bike and wanted to come to the professionals so here i am. I do airbrush and paitwork on motorcycles. I'm now painting mine, a 2004 CBR Fireblade. I'm also in the Navy Reserves so i'm making this bike a tribute to the F14. I wanted it to sound like an F14 so i have considered putting in a turbine. My question is do these sound like a jet, smell like a jet etc and how hot do they get? Any imput would be helpful. Thanks

Thanks knowing a fireblade i would go for a small VERY loud thus meaning high rpm,s get a Wren 44 build it inside the saddle compartment aft , let the cone stick out. pain the inside with some ceramic heat shield paint have a small servotester doing the full autostart sequense... and have fun! one one liter this thing can run for 10 minutes www.wren-turbines.com |

My Jet bike is as loud as a Learjet and yes, you can smell the Jet A.

I know they get very hot, but how hot is hot. I'm assuming hot enough to melt plastic, so i would need to know a temperature range for the heat shield paint. Thanks again. Brad |
RE: JetBike
One more thing, full setup turbine, servos, etc. how much am i looking at spending? Also, i grew up around rc planes, ran my dads p51 into the ground about 20 yrs ago and that was the last time i messed with them. I'm an air traffic controller now at Denver ARTCC and this bike will be a hit with all the aviation buffs here. Thanks again....

RE: JetBike
These are REAL JET ENGINES ! Just smaller ,everything else is the same. (Fuel, Temp, Smell).

RE: JetBike
The turbines that we run are single stage (compressor & turbine) turbojet engines. Typically the compressor is an off the shelf commercial centrifugal compressor wheel, like that of an automotive turbo charger. The turbine wheels are expensive cause they are custom cast from Inconel and are of the axial flow type. The engines typically run from $2500 to $4500. EGT (Exhaust Gas Temp) runs about 650 degrees C at full throttle. We normally run Jet A (kerosene) for fuel mixed with about 5% turbine oil for bearing lubrication.

RE: JetBike
You can toss the engine and adapt a turboshaft and have the real thing.. this one is a Y2K professionaly built expensive bike, but some years ago a guy done the same with a old bike and made a superb demonstration on a r/c jet event.
