Kerosene Question
 

After reading lots of post on this forum about fuel I would still like to know which kerosene would be better as far as dealing with contamination(algee,water dirt......ect).One from a 50 gallon sealed drum or out of the pump from BP gas station.They don't have the crown or what ever it call at home depot and the airport guy's ask to many questions.Also is there something you can add to fuel to fight algee.And how big a problem is a little water as far as flame outs go.

Well.. Basicly, if you use a drum, and leave it were it is so that it settles, then taking fuel of the top wil be safe. The water will stay at the bottom of the drum, and the algea will live happily in the water. Drain all the water and the algea will contaminate the fuel.

In the UK if you get fuel from an airport fuel supplier, it is law that the supplier MUST test the fuel in the system everyday before the first delivery and after the last delivery. They use Shell water detector capsules. A syringe sucks the fuel up through the detector and if it turns green the fuel contains above 30 ppm of water or more. Not good.
I suggest if you are worried about water contamination then you get hold of the US equivalent and use them before filling your tanks.
I use them every time I fill my model just to be safe.

I would go to your nearest airport fuel supplier and ask to buy a tube of them and a syringe.

Also note that water gets into the container from the moist air that replaces the volume taken by the fuel that is removed

Good tips here. Especially the one with the water-detectors. The Shell Water-Detectors are very easy to use, and are very accurate if used correctly.

I read some where today on this forum that it's just best to buy the fuel and burn it. Don't give it time to set up and grow algee so maybe i'll try that . Just buy it from the pump 5 gallons at a time and fly. Should not be a problem since I try to fly every chance I get any way(some times 10 times a week). Thank's and hope I don't flame out.

There is a microbicide for jet fuels. It's called BIOBOR JF and sold by Hammonds. It is sold by the quart. You can treat 100 gals with 1.3 fl. ozs. so a quart goes a long way.

I have used this funnel to transfer pump kero into my fuel can.
It works great and removes all water and crud.
