Wow!!! what a story. You usually have to read the National Enquirer here in the States to find something that wild.
If he has frostbite that bad, he probably ain't gonna come thru this with all of his parts....

He apparently climbed into the wheel well. Another report states his hands may have to be amputated due to frostbite.

Uh, hello......... It's not the temperatures that are gonna get you the quickest, it's the lack of oxygen!

Yes thats true. At the normal cruising altitude of the 737, if exposed to the ambient conditions, useful consciousness is only a few seconds, soon afterwards the brain dyis of lack of oxygen

there have been stories of refugies hiding in wheel wells to escape whatever .....some survived, some didn't.....

In the mean time, your lungs will be deflated as well. The loss of pressure would likeley suck them closed??

Hey B1, something that not a lot of people know is that....your time of useful consciousness decreases by half if exposed during a rapid decompression. yikes.

RE: Come On, this is RIDICULOUS!!!!!

But if the wheel wells are pressurized he would be conscious, but to survive that cold?? I dont know!!!

Yeah, but ian......no airplane that i have ever seen has had pressurized wheel wells. And anyways, i thought he was on the wing......hell no.

Whoever wrote this story needs to find another hobby, if your gonna make stuff up you might want to make it somewhat believable.

This is written up near the top of the article: >>> Boy who flew to Moscow in plane's wheel well faces amputation<<<< But yet in the article it says he was on the wing.

Yeah, and Villiam Shatnerov was the only one who saw him on the wing but nobody believed him:D.

I have heard both sides of the tory being in the wheel well or on the wing. I was just stretching out on a limb Nick on the pressurized wheel wells, I know that there aren't many, if any, out there. Bottom line is this story is BUNK!!!! Must have been a slow news day in Moscow!!

Actually, I was thinking you might be the only McGyver to figure out how to bleed air off the tires to keep your lungs inflated. I wonder how much decompression it takes to blow an eye ball though? I heard once that you could pop through one with 3 PSI.............

All of this at 500 knots. I do love a good farce.

From a journal...

"SFO — A routine post-flight inspection of a Boeing 747 that landed at San Francisco International Airport on Thursday morning revealed an unexpected discovery: a dead body. Authorities believe the body, which maintenance personnel found in the wheel well of the plane, was that of a stowaway who tried to sneak into the country on a flight from China. United Airlines flight 858 from Shanghai arrived at SFO at 7:42 a.m. — nearly 11 hours after taking off, according to airport spokesman Mike McCarron.
FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said that, since 1947, there have been 74 known stowaway attempts worldwide. Only 14 of the individuals survived.
In 2001, the son of a Zairean general arrived at SFO in the wheel well of a US Airways flight. He had escaped his country to Britain before attempting his trip to the United States.
In January, three people tried and failed to survive such a trip, according to Gregor.
"These people are desperate enough that they're willing to risk their lives to get in the U.S. in a manner that has proven to be fatal almost all the time," Gregor said. The last time somebody survived the journey to the United States in the wheel well of an airplane was in March 2004, on a flight from the Dominican Republic to Miami. "

Seems that it is possible to survive, and even do make a connection flight, like that Zairean guy!

Makes you wonder how many have tried that we don't know about......when the landing gear is lowered, the frozen body falls out of the wheel well unseen

Well said.. some years ago here in Brazil a airliner mechanic forgot a toolbox on the wheel well .. the toolbox hit a house, and the air company paid for the repairs. Fortunately it didn´t hit anybody.

Didn't they fish some guy out of Long Island Sound a few years ago that turned out to be a stowaway that dropped out of an airliner landing at JFK?

The 737 doesn't even have MLG doors which makes this even more unbelievable. If this is true, the kid probably crawled up in the wing to body fillet panels.

There's the Cuban guy who hugged the DC-10 hyd reservoir & lived to tell about it. I even think the Discovery or History channel did a story about this guy.

If you're going to do it, hide in the E&E compartment.
