Question about AR9000/DM9 Module
I have a quick question about the AR9000 rx that I have been using with the DM9 module in my JR10X.
Everything is working perfectly and has been since I have installed it, but it does this weird thing when I turn it on, as it arms, that has me slightly concerned. With my Tx on, I turn on my rx and the flap/aileron/stab/rudder servos go to full stop then return to neutral as it arms. I showed this to Joe McBride at Fresno Jets and he suggested that I re-bind my tx/rx. I got lazy and never did it at the jet show for him to help me. Now I am taking the rx out of my SuperHornet and installing it into Ali's JMP T-33. I re-bound the rx/tx as suggested and it still does the same thing. Now let me remind everyone that my unit works flawless and the data from the flight log has been superb, my question is asking if anyone has seen this happen and what am I doing wrong, if anything, with my install. My question is really for the JR/Spektrum guy's but just in case anyone else has experienced this, I would love to hear about a quick fix. I haven't seen that amigo but have talked to Barry regarding something similar.
He mentioned, while working in his garage, that his surfaces kinda go crazy for a sec or two. he thinks it might be interference from a microwave in the house etc. but will do a 360 degree range check at the field. My question to you is, how do I keep my gear from cycling when I turn my transmitter then airplane on. should i turn on the receiver first then transmitter? i.e. force it into failsafe mode- gear down, surfaces neutral?? thanks buck |

To answer your question, the surge on the servos for some reason does not effect my retract channel? I have not had a problem with my gear going up when I turn on. Weird I know, just wondering if there was something that I'm doing wrong? Talk at you later bro, Dave |

To answer both of your questions, usually re-binding them in your set-failsafe positions fixes this problem. You really have to bind the receiver twice. Once when you first put it in the plane, and again after you have all of your control surfaces set-up. Make sure all your sticks are set where you want them, the trim is set the way you want it, gear in the correct position, throttle at idle, etc. THEN re-bind the system again.
This will eliminate that problem.....same for the gear. Feel free to call me if you have any further questions. Chad 702.521.8010 |

ORIGINAL: strawboss You are not telling me anything other then what is already written in the Spektrum manual. You did read my post right? The part where I said that I re-bound the system after I have flown it a bunch?? If you have already done this, then there is nothing more you can do. Although I will say that in all of my A/C, none of them deflect then go to neutral after being re-bound. Just trying to help. |

Like Buck said, I was having the same issues while setting up my AR9000/10X combo last night (my first time using a SS radio other than a DX6).
First problem was that the surfaces kept going nuts (full lock side to side, etc) for no apparent reason. This was traced to the wife/kids using a microwave in the kitchen (50 feet and 3 walls away...!). Second was that the gear kept retracting at power on, even after the initial binding. Third was the servos jumping a bit at power up. Rebinding several times after setting nuetrals and finishing the programming solved both problems - though for some reason the brake channel cycles (possibly because I had the brakes "on" the last time I bound the radio but usually have them off when I power up. All is is good now and I hope to fly it soon (failed gas/fuel soleniods - both brand new! - killed today's sorties). Barry |

Dave,
The are two different ways to bind the AR9000. I suggest the second version in the manual which then works like the PCM fail safe. Insert the binding plug, power up the RX the lights should be blinking, then remove the binding plug, the lights will still be blinking. On the TX set all the functions in the position you prefer, Hold in the binding button on the module and power up the TX and wait for the RX's to bind. Now all the servos will go to the failsafe postion you had the TX functions set to. It has worked flawless for me to date. As for the microwave, I heard from someone that microwave ovens pose a threat to 2.4? So I turned on my hornet in the garage, left it on with the flight log attached while cooking some popcorn in the microwave that is backed up to the garage wall. I noticed no change in frame loss/antenna fades/holds.....ect. Of course this might change depending on what type of oven, but at the time I chalked it up to urban legend. |
