8611a vs 8711
Any ideas of the difference in amperes consume between these 2 servos?
I need to make a choice for a Rafale I’m about to begin to build.... Thanks, MS |
RE: 8611a vs 8711
According to TBM pages who actually have tested them, the 8711 consume 4,5 Amp and provide 344 oz-in, and the 8611a consume 2,8 Amp and provide 294 oz-in.
Right now I use 8711 and it is a very precise and strong servo, overkill for a 1/ 7 Rafale:D |
RE: 8611a vs 8711
Correct me if I´m wrong....The 4 to 5 amps are consume when demanding the max torque (344oz) out of the servo?
Thks. BTW...I also would like to confirm if the torque of the servos at the factories are calculated with1 inch servo arm? |
RE: 8611a vs 8711
8711's are overkill. They suck more juice for not that much more torque.

RE: 8611a vs 8711
Hey Miguel,
Yes we do use a 1 inch arm for torque measuring when testing servos. the difference between teh two is that the 8611A will fry its amp if you stall it. The 8711 will drain the battery quickly if you stall it, the amp will not die. Just for reference, I am installing 8711's on my elevators and rudder of my BVM twin Rafale, and 8611A's on the ailerons, and canards. Hope this helps. |
RE: 8611a vs 8711
Miguel, if you are building the Fei Bao Rafale then the 8611 are just fine, we build like 6 of them this year and installed 8611 they fit just fine with a litle modification, the place that needs some attention is the distance of the Aileron horne to the leading eadge of the Aileron, if there is not enough material then it could fail during flight.

RE: 8611a vs 8711
Don't mean to sound rude or anything, but can ANYONE beat this servo? why aren't more of us using this? This is some serious servo!!!

RE: 8611a vs 8711
I repeat, 196oz @ .07 sec?? Has anyone noticed?
Not to mention, cyclic servos are made to take a beating! |
RE: 8611a vs 8711
8711
Is an absolute Amp hungry servo and is overkill on many of todays Jets. I use it on my Giant Scale Acrobatic planes that have extreme control deflection. The 8711 is also only slightly heavier then the 8611a. Don't get me wrong both are the best but you should make sure u have an electrical system that can handle the 8711 should u max amp her. Typical LG style Battery from Fromeco and TBM are good for a 10 amp draw per battery. Ian |

David If I'm not wrong the 8717 is more usefull in the heli world. But again I don't see why not to use it in a jet. You can try it in your new falcon and tell us the results.[sm=bananahead.gif]
Saludos |
RE: 8611a vs 8711
Thanks John for the info. If the problem is not to stall the servo...then what´s the problem? Carlos, the proyect I'll be working is a Rafale...not twin, not BVM, not Fei Bao. Is a Aviation Design that I bought at the end of 2004 and had been since then taking dust in my shop. I bought the BVM's Rafale plans an manual to study the way to Trans-BVM-former this plane...is a chanllenge and decided to take it....also will give a chance to have good time and fun at the shop (Jet Lab). Many jet pilots set up their models like 40% Yak's, not sure that it needs to be like that. Saludos mi pana! El bucanero v2.0 viene por ahi y mas HP que nunca! ja,ja,ja |

Miguelito,
I've been using 8711 on my Aviation Design Mirage 2000 now for a year and I couldn't be happier. The voltage concern that you read about is really only on the big Flip Flops that are constantly hammering the servos. I'm flying all my jets with Fromeco 5400 packs and I get 7 flights before I even start thinking about charging the Jet. I don't know how you're setting up your Rafale but the Mirage is very critical when it comes to the elevon because it's a really big area that a single servo has to move. The 8711 is now on all my Jets and I'm very happy with them. |

Hey Juanito... good to hear from you.
I´ll check the Fromeco site...Thks. |
