Trim Spectre
 

Hi All,

Has anyone ever converted a Trim Spectre for use with a turbine? I have a part built kit, but have not yet started on the fuselage, was looking for any info to help with the project such as turbine installation, which turbine would be suitable etc.

Yes it is a project I had considered many times, it had great performance on DF.

Due to its size, and small wing I would suggest that the engine of choice would be the Wren44 Gold.

The install weight is pretty low and you only need 1 litre of fuel.
If you go bigger, it will be a tight fit and double the fuel load.
Due to the extra weight the wing loading you would need to seriously strengthen the model and fit high powered servo's...etc...etc.
All of that adds weight! and the wing loading goes up again[:o]
They flew fantastically on a Ramtec with a OS 91, top speeds of 200mph were recorded.

A 44 has as much static as a Ramtec but much higher dynamic thrust...it will be a pocket rocket![8D]

Have a look at the PST jets website, there was one converted with a PST-600 which you can see the engine install.
Its the tiger paint scheme on the third row.
The main thing for a spectre is to keep the weight down but fitting a turbine like a 600R you should get it around 13-14 pounds and it would fly great!
one thing on the kit I would change if fitting a turbine would be to mount the aileron servos in the wings with a short pushrod and also
add a extra former to the rear of the fuse where the rudder is glued to strengthen the tail section.
I wanted to do the same with a PST-600R but can't get onto a kit now :(

I have a new kit that's partly assembled, I could be convinced to offload it.
An MW44 gold mounted in a Spectre sounds an interesting project..........

Hi!

I have a Spectre with OS91 & Ramtec combo. Flies good, extremely fast! Weight is 6,3 kg dry which is quite a lot for it. It can be built to around 5,5kg with Ramtec, mine is heavy because of some repairs and too much paint.

A friend of mine has a Spectre, it made a flight with a JetJoe 1400. Flew just as fast but vertical was better because of more thrust. Sadly it destroyed on the only flight because of CG too far forward. All went well until he had to land it and there wasn't enough power on the elevator.

So why not build it for turbine? The MW44 Gold sounds very very interesting, a bit more static thrust than Ramtec, much more thrust at higher speed and much lighter and of course it is a turbine... ;););)

Had one about 7 years ago with an early AMT Mercury. It was stable and very fast. Did however increase the wingspan by 100mm. Had two tanks of 750mm each (copied the Sullivan 11oz DF tanks but made them slightly longer and fatter) plus a 10oz hopper and use to get about 6 to 7 minutes flying time.

Go fot it ........... it will be fun.

This one is powered by a Wren 54 Mk3. Plenty power and carries about 1,5 litres of fuel.
