HI Guys,

I am in China again. Will be here to work on my F16s. I am working on a JL F-16 with P60 and one FEJ F-16 with P-80. I will compare the performance once they are ready. Now FLY Eagle only has the Rafael on sale. I am thinking about getting one for my local friend here. I know nothing about this plane. Is it pretty easy to fly as a 2nd Jet? For some reasons, the local Chinese fliers really like canard planes more than our conventional wing in the front configuration. I plan to get one for myself while it's still in great discount. The Tiger Meet seems to be great, but my friend wants to paint a Mickey Mouse on his for the year of Rat! Well, anyone wants to be in a Rat Race?

Keith,

Congratulations, you are probably the first to fly one outside of the factory team. Please post your flight comments after adjusting the CG. I'm interested in the performance with your Supersport and control throws.

Just started working on the gear doors and am taking my time since I probably won't have any decent flying weather until May.

Hello Keith,

Congratulations on the maiden. I am glad you landed the bird safely. Question, if the bird is nose heavy, then why not just remove the weight from the front end rather than moving the engine forward also? would you not end up with excessive distance between the end of the engine and the bellmouth?

Hi Mike,i want to move the engine forward a bit more so that i can remove the lead,i will also move the exhaust duct forward as well,i am thinking of moving the uat up front and puting a small tank where the uat is now this way i can drain the main tanks with out running out of fuel.My tank troubles were do to the rubber bungs in the tanks one had completely fell to bits!!i have now installed the Dubro bungs which fit much better and give a good seal regards keith

My F-16 finally arrived. I had same problems as Joe. Arrived in the States Dec 28 but DHL kept losing it until today Jan 7th.

I see FEJ is advertising a cockpit/pilot for the 1/8 F-16 on their website. I couldnt find a price posted. Does anyone know what the cost will be?

They just called me and told me that the first 2 F16 tiger meets are ready for me to pick up on Monday and load them up for California. I can only give them to the first 2 paid club members. They said that they will release the rest by the Chinese New Year. The waiting is killing us. I am putting my P80 on my other new ride a T-45 first.

We'll I have the tracking number and it is on it's way.So far Eagle Jets has been great to deal with.I have been having trouble trying to pay with my credit card,It would not go through pay pal so I joined pay pal and it still would not go through.So I went to the post office and got a postal money order,I was unsure about sending just the money order.Eagle jets as far as I'm concerned went way out of there way to help me get the jet.They answered any of my e-mails quick.I'm waiting for a tiger meet style.I paid the extra money for the additional work done, and have a brand new P-70 waiting for it's new home.I hope they do come out with the F-4.

What's the best way to install gear doors on the F-16?

I finally got the nose door on and operating OK after some trial and error. I thought the mains would be easier but I having issues. I am attaching the hinges to the door first to make sure the hinges are aligned using a piece of music wire. When I put them in the fuse they bind due to the curvature of the fuse and slight warpage of the doors.

Looking at the sequence of pictures in the FEJ instruction manual it appears that they first install the hinges into the fuse, then attach the door. It seems that won't insure that all of the hinges are aligned perfectly but I'm ready to try that next.

Keith, Sabastien, Mike, or anyone else that has done this already: What sequence did you use and do you have any other advise?

I feel your pain as I experienced this a short while ago. Here is what I did..

I attached the hinges to the body first. I placed them approximately where they show in the pictures. I used a small amount of 5 minute epoxy and applied a blob to the hinge mounting surface. I lowered the hinge arm over the side of the fuselage and attached epoxied end to the inside. After attaching all three, I lined them up to where the hinge flat surface of all three hinges was in the same plane. You can also look from the front side and sort of eye them in. you should be able to see thru the small holes in the arm and all three will/should line up. You would have to this kinda fast if you use 5 minute epoxy.

After the epoxy is set, I place the door on and tape it to the body. Now turn the plane over and from the top apply blob of epoxy to the hinge mating surface and attach it to the door, wait five minutes and now you have a hinged door.

One very important thing. Make sure the liner does not extend beyond the door. Sand the edge of the door (hinge side) to where you would have 1/16th gap between the door and the fuselage (ask me how I know....[sm=48_48.gif]. Also sand the same side in an angle to where that edge is thinned out a bit.

Did you get a bag of small screws (36 pcs) with your kit? If so, you would want to screw the doors and the fuse to the hinges. If you look, there are couple of small holes on each side of the hinge. That is what they have done for me on the F-15. I think I saw a bag, but I can not find it [sm=punching.gif]. once I find them, I will install and use hysol on the backside of the hinges to reinforce them.

The front door was a bit tough for me, but I got it to work. Were you able to completely close the door with the gear in place? On mine, the front screw heads hit the door liner and would not let the door seat, so I dermalized [sm=lol.gif] the liner

Hi Joe i did mine almost the same as mike but i used Zap in stead of epoxy if you get it wrong with zap you can just slide a knife though so that you can repostion the hinge,when correct i put a small amount of Hysol on the hinge to hold it,but you must have a small gap on hinge side of door Good Luck regards Keith

Thanks, guys. I was planning on trying it similar to the way Mike described next. I have already tack glued these on and pulled them off a few times already. Since you can do that only a few times I thought I'd check to see what has worked for others.

I liked the idea of removing the screw and aligning the hinges with music wire, which is why I installed the hinges to the door first. Installing them in the fuse first leaves more opportunity to mis-align them, but I should be able to get them close enough. Also my doors are slightly warped. I'll have to straighten them out a bit with a heat gun first.

Yes, there is room. That's how I'll attach them to the door after the hinges are glued to the fuse.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I know a lot of guys use screws, however if a door gets ripped off I'd rather just glue it back on without having to deal with a chunk of fiberglass that got ripped out of the side of the fuse.

Now I know why I have avoided gear doors in the past.

Hey Joe,

one other comment, when you attach the hinge to the fuse, the top of the mounting base needs to be flush to the edge of the fuse.

I tired using a wire thru the the hinge arm holes but was not successful.
I see your point about the use of screws, I may just leave it alone and use the hysol.

My planes should be here in 14 days, just got the word.
Finaly I took that F15 in Tiger meet and a F16 in Thunderbirds scheme.

P-80 for the F16 and P-120SE for the F15.
Gonna be at the Jetcat factory on February to pick the turbines myself, as part of my trip to Germany.

Hey Zivo,

F-15 is sitting on a table downstairs in the lower level looking PRETTY. I am still working on the F-16. I have been traveling for the past couple of month for business and put about 25000 miles on my frequent flyer account and really have not had much time to work on the planes. I also had sent in the ECU for my RAM 750 to be upgraded to CS03, it got it back couple of weeks ago and I just finished testing the engine. I had to redo the f-16 rudder hinges due to carelessness. but over all I should be done with the plane in the next week or so, and then Hanger queen will be moved to the shop. I am very impressed with the workmanship and the finish on this plane. it is huge. I got to get a trailer to haul it to the flying field….Stay warm, sounds like it is cold there.

Hi All, the second flight of my F16 did not go ahead today with 20/25mph cross wind i decided to give it a miss,i have now changed the tank arangement,they are now in series with one main tank feeding the other main which then feeds the uat,i tryed a third tank with both main tanks feeding the third tank and then the uat but this caused a lot of suction in the uat and i was not happy with it. On a different subject the cermark F16 i have shown previosly has a Booster 80+ which is a nice unit and has plenty of power this engine is about to go in to a FEJ f16 as the owner is about to recieve his fej F16 will let you know how it go,s regards Keith
