problem with long servo leads...help!
 

right, I have a Starjet with two Voltz servos in the tail plane.The servos are using a channel each on 1 metre long leads.The problem is that when doing a range check with no tx aerial in my 10X the servos start to move out of sync with each other at about 20 paces but the the radio is not going into failsafe till I get to about 130 paces. I have tried ferrite cores which does increase the 20 paces to 40, but thats still no good. I have other models with scimilar setups but using JR servos with no problems.

Can anyone help me?

And what are opto isolators and will they help?

I had a remarkably similar problem with my 10x in my Super Reaper, except I was using JR 8231 servos running directly to the rx.

I posted a question here and no one had seen anything like it before. I was getting much more than 20 paces before the servos started moving out of sync. Probably close to 80 metres with the aerial removed, so I figured that while not in failsafe, I was getting good range. I have never had a problem in flight.

I have no idea how this could happen and most here seemed to think I must have had a mix stuffed up that was causing the problem, but I assure you, they would stay in sync until I got a cetain distance away before one started to get out of whack. It was still responding, but just not in time with the other.

Had my radio checked out shortly after and it came back with no major problem found other than needing a minor tune-up.

Mind you, 20 paces is pretty short and I'd get to the bottom of it if I was in your shoes.

Hi,
The opto ensures there is no electrical connetion between
the servos and the rx, it simply passes the pulse on the signal
wire through without changing the width which defines servo
position. It also blocks any electromagnetic interference
picked up by the long servo leads, I have checked this with
a scope and noise generator and it does work. SM Services
version is ok.
PCM consists of equal length pulses each 10 bits assign
a value which is converted by the rx into pulse width for the
servo. Suspect you are using top end channel 9 or 10? Would
be interested if you have the same effect mixing (as an
experiment) with say channel 4.
One thing you could try is a JR matchbox, am using one
on my L39 elevator and the leads on that are 7ft, no problems.

twist your servos leads and ext. wires - that will help stop this.
