RE: BVM F 100
Pete,
You just can't beat the BVM F-100 for reliability. I have completed two D model for past scale competitions and I have enjoyed flying them so much that I just painted an F model in a sport paint scheme based on the Red Bull colors. (Give me a week and I'll post some pics.) The landing gear on this aircraft are the best in the business, and frankly if the landing gear isn't strong and reliable you really don't have anything. The plane does need a Titan or a Titan SE, as my last thunderbirds F-100 D just had a P-120 and with all of the scale goodies on it was just sluggish to the point that I goofed up on a long down wind and lost it to a stall. That was after over 80 flights you would think I would have known better. Anyway these are fantastic models that are well worth the work and effort. Rod Snyder |

RE: BVM F 100
Hey Patrick,
Looks great!!! The joystick I promissed you is on the way. I put a couple of my new offset canopy hinges in the box with the new F-4 cockpit tubs too, just in case you want to pursue the canopy option on your F-100. Simple intall. Just glue them in. They will provide the clearance necessary for the canopy to swing up and clear the fuse. Keep up the great work. Send me more pictures!!! Dan |

Barry PS - My big sis actually had her twins shaved down for comfort while still wearing the blue suit (instructed in T-37's and T-38's, flew KC-135's for a long time) ....so maybe this counts for extra scale points/realism score if you ever enter Top Gun... :) |

RE: BVM F 100
Patrick,
After reading Justin's post about the locking pins. I thought I'd let you know about this one ahead of time.... I'm making a locking unit for the F-4 canopies, but it would be only half as much for the F-100D. Only one canopy to lock. The unit will have a magnetic canopy position sensor and mini-locking cylinders for the canopy. Just add a mini servo for the supplied valve, plug the unit into an open channel and the rest is automatic. Should be ready in about 2 weeks. By the way, Justin is correct...Having an operable canopy IS the #$%@!:D Dan |

RE: BVM F 100
Here's some info. on how I did the operational canpoy on Joe's F-100F...
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=3586483 Actually, the problem is not really getting the locking cylinders to trip at the right time - I used a UP-3 valve for that, its getting the canopy to seat right so that the locking pins grab on tight enough. The system I used is somewhat self-aligning, but it still takes a bit of fiddling to get it right... Bob |
RE: BVM F 100
Bob,
The locking unit I have been designing uses slide plates that grab onto the canopy hooks when the locking cylinders engage. Since the hooks are tapered and the plates slide to the rear, not only is it self aligning, but once the cylinders have moved all the way back, they pull the canopy down quite tightly. THe unit uses a simple smav valve and a mini servo, along with the timing control unit; kinda like a door sequencer. Hope to have it available in a few weeks. You're right about one thing for sure...It takes quite a bit of R & D to get it correct. The F-100F looks to be quite the challenge. Very long moment arm for the cylinder to lift the canopy. By the way, Joe's HUN looks fantastic!!! Nice job. Dan |
