Flash Setup
 

I would like to get some input from Flash pilots. What is your Setup. We have had 4 Flashs at our field.

I am setup at the forward cg makr of 370. I need a small amoutn of elevator trim for straight and level on third to half throttle flight. At full throttle it doesn't need any trim and it is mixed out with a throttle to E mix. When I put full flaps on I need the down elevator mixed in, about 1/8th". This is what the about what the book called for. With this setting I can fly hands off with full flaps. KE rudder mix is 5% R to A same direction.

The other three at our field didn't require any up elevator trim for level flight. And there Flap mix needs to be up E not down E. All of our cgs are in the same area.

What is your Flash setup like?

The flash is a very forgiving airframe, but at the same time creep back on the cg til you trime the flash so it will fly hands off right side up or up side down. Then you will have no down elev. and possibly a little up elevator at slow flight full flaps ( 45 degrees is were i'm at) . If you deploy the flaps at medium speeds the flash might climb a little but as landing speed is established the plane will sink very nice on final. My flash weight is 25.5 lbs uat filled with a ram 1000. This might change with the lighter turbines. The key is trim flight the flash for right side and upside down level flight with the cg position then worry about the mix elev. to flap. Right now i'm flying no elev. mix with flaps on landing.

My point was all of the Flashes at our field have the cg in the same spot but the trims and mixes are very different. I like my Flash that way it is setup, it flies like a pattern plane and it lands easy, except when try to emulate Shulman:(.

It may have something to do with the nose door. I have hear that installing the nose door will drop the nose a bit when the gear is retracted. Mine only pitches slightly down when I retract the gear. Otherwise with gear up, the flaps make no pitch change.

Are all of the Flashes the same weight and use the same engine?
I have just started on my Flash and will use a Falcon so I'll be sucking up any Flash info.

I have the Titan SE the others had P120s. I have wieghed mine on a calibrated scale, it is 23 lb 5 oz with a full UAT. The other planes have not been weighed.

Two of the planes were not using the landing gear bay insert. I first thought this was the difference but the third flash did have the inserts.

How does the Ram 1000 fly the Flash. I am fixing to order one for my Ram and wanting to make sure that it is the right plane for my engine. What speed are you getting, did you put in the extra tank, what are your flight times, what landing gear did you use? Thanks

I have seen Mike's fly with the 1000. Holy crap it's fast! Accelerates on the vertical. I'm pretty sure he had to use the wing tank or his flight times would be about 4 mins. (just a guess) I'm looking at getting one in the near future but will probably use my Merc. I think the ole hot spot may go into retirement.

Thanks Randy, I am looking for something that is fast as well as something that I can do point rolls, slow rolls, and still be easy to fly. I am sure I will put the wing tank in mine. I really want to put trailing link struts on the mains as I will fly it off of grass some of the time and have heard that the stock gear in not good for grass.

My old Rookie is going into retirement as soon as I get my Hot Spot done.

Hey Randy getter in hear,
The flash is fast but the acceleration is awsome. Vertical take-offs if you like full of fuel both tanks ( canopy, wing ). I do have my Ram 1000 TURNED DOWN TO 121,600 and i believe it will turn up to 128,600. The flight time 7.5 min. with a quarter tank in the fuse tank.( This is a go arround or two). I have installed the factory Behotec c-36 gear. 40 flights no issues. I'm getting ready to order myself another flash and two more i will be rigging for some other guys. The power plants will be titan se's turned down since the overall weight will be the same why not purchase a turbine that might fly something larger in the future. The airfoil is about a 250 mph design with very large leading edges. This is a jet (pattern plane) that flys very true and forgiving. Very nice vertical point rolls up and down. With the ram 1000 you will have 199.9 mph at the stick when ever you wish to feel the the differance. up down left right wherever whenever. I have flown BVM models for 20 years and the flash flys like a big aggrressor III with alot of power. GGGGGGGGGGGGGREAT MODEL JET.
