How do you know when you have enough experience to start flying turbine powered aircraft, the trainer ones? I am starting on my glow trainer, a .40 size trainer with a .60 size engine. I have flown some electric trainers too. I am just curious to know when you know you have enough experience.

IMHO, if you really want to get into turbines, then work your way up to something like a 60 to 180 sized P-51 and get to the point where you can land it comfortably from *both directions* and do basic acrobatics. At that point, you are ready for something like a Boomer. Boomers aren't that hard to fly (the P-51 is going to probably be a bit harder), but you're going to have a lot of $'s riding in that Boomer and the consequences of a crash are going to be poptentially more catastrophic, so you need to be proficient to take on a turbine...

How about a Reaction 54 or a AV8R? The reason I am asking is because I am really into these little jet engines, to me, just running them on a test stand or something like that is fun. Why I don't know, but I also want to build an F-15 in the future.

From my experience with the AV8R I would pick something else like an Intro Boomerang.

you know when is time..when you start spent 99% of net surfing in rcjet staff cose rest is boring!

then get alot of sim time on jet landings using gear and brake factions

then get the skymaster f15!great flier and looks like a jet!

get ap p120se ...play on stand for 6 months to get use of throtle and sount

order and study all rc jet dvds


get a helper to hold your knees and an expirience rc jet pilot with buddy cable


snif some propane drink some kyro.lite up a sigar and take the first ride of your life

cose the point with no turning back...u have already passed it...wellcome to the family

A .75 - .90 size fast sport airplane like the Patriot XL (by Great Planes) or one of the .75 - .90 size pusher BobCat 'knock-offs' are very good planes to fly before getting into jets. These planes will also expose you to retracts and flaps which are found in nearly all jets.
As far as the Reaction 54 ..... it is a great trainer and a great flying airplane in general .... even as a sport plane beyond training (I have one). The only drawback to the R54 is that you have to build it ... and there is a good amount of work involved. As mentioned earlier .... I think the Boomer is a wise choice for a first jet. Bob

It all depends on your background.More importantly,do you have a jet guy close by that can help you.I didn't see where you were from before I hit the reply button,but the answer really is to reach out to someone close by that has experience.Good luck.
