MiG-29 FC/CompArf Landing Gear question
 

Hi guys,

i'm working on a MiG-29 of a friend and need some details on the landing gear, i do not have one available to me. Does anybody have the possibility to take a picture or 2 of the general layout, and most importantly: i need the exact travel of the hydraulic cylinders nosegear and main gear, as well as the length between the hardpoints with gear extended.

Hello stan,

i have done a search, but seem to have missed one of your links that helped a lot with pictures.

I still need to know the exact travel those cylinders are making from fully retracted to fully extended in order to get the hardpoint positions right. If someone could get those i'd be very grateful :-)

Hi Hank,

I have one but I have only done the mains. I am not sure what you are trying to do. Establishing the location of the hardpoints is set by the construction of the kit. The gear have a mount already installed and the fuselage has a predrilled hole. As you have figured out, the "up" and "down" position of the gear are exquisitely dependant on the accuracy of the location of these points and the length and stroke of the cylinder.

I think the stock cylinder has a 70 mm stroke, but I used a custom made cylinder with 80 mm stroke to get the right travel. BTW, the hardpoint on the main gear is adjustable.

Hi Matt,

What i'm trying to do is basically the same as you have used on your plane.....custom cylinders. Basically all i have is a sketch of the fuselage layout in that area. Now i need to figure out where the hardpoints are on the original system, and then design the cylinders around that. That way my system will also be modular for others who might want to replace theirs...

The info that the cylinders travel 70mm helps me a lot! Now all i need is the length of the cylinder, either retracted or extended...


By the way, i read that the nose gear shortens while retracting. Anybody have a pic of the mechanism used? I'd like to throw some numbers into my calculator to find out the force needed to overcome this load....

The main cylinder length is 170mm from hole to hole completely retracted as close as I can tell from measuring it installed in the jet. The nose gear does shorten when retracted there is a rod that runs down the center of the strut that is mounted to the retract base plate. I will try to get as good a picture as I can with my phone.
