Just finishing my Mig and am looking tor advice on component layout.I made some changes that were suggested by members on this forum,including,carbon fibre spars,re-enforcing the fuse near the nose gear,doubling up on the wing gear mounts,putting the elevator servos in the stab and omitting the outer gear doors as they are just a pain in the ***.I got the drop tanks so you can't even see the outer gear doors anyway(thanks for that tip Vincent).Anyway if any of you have some pictures of your equipment layout they would be much appreciated.Also any other tips would also be welcome.P.S(I know about the weight in the nose)Thanks,John

John! finally someone who's also building the Carf Mig,
nice to meet you on the forum!
I'm almost at the same stage of the components lay out,
btw reading about this difficultees with the small gear doors I decided to keep it simple and just use some small aircilinders; (from Fei Bao I think)

Got more pictures and some questions for you, where did you put the servo for the nosewheel steering?, what kinda turbine you use?, do you use the airbrakes?, are you gonna use gyro on the rudder?,
hope to share some information; this is gonna be very interesting!

I thougt trying another proven system will work too;

Put the servo vertical:

And use 90deg bend brass pipes;

Here's a few pics of a BVM MiG I built for a customer last year, although not the same kit there may be some ideas that work for you.

I've seen pictures of your plane on different forums: looks good,
Question: did you mount the big gears doors to the fuselage or to the wing, on the picture I can see the two aircilinders in the fuse but I can't see the doors?

Somewhere on this forum I found this good idea to split the top hatch,:

so the canopy part stays on the fuselage while you stil have quick acces to the turbine in the back,

Frank,

Seeing this new thread pop up makes me wish I had kept mine. I got a wild hair and sold it before I completed the build, however it was my option to install the large inner door fixed to the wing. My way of thinking was that it would be too easy to knock/damage the door if installed onto the fuse.

Yours is looking good...keep the pics coming.

Actually, your thread helped me to make me decision to buy the Mig,:)
I really liked (and miss!) that thread; you put a lot of pictures there (sadly not visible anymore?) and make everything very clear, (although I then already had my plan for these famous outergeardoors and use small aircilinders)
And then al of a sudden your Mig showed up in the "Classified Ads" what happenend? I,ve been a scalebuilder for many years designing my own planes and stuff so putting together this Mig from Andreas Gietz is pretty straightforward with no real difficultees?
Anyway, your comments will still be very valuable and it is nice knowing you are watching this thread!

Unfortunately, the manner in which I posted those pics using the image feature left me running out of provided space on the server of my ISP. I went back and tried to edit the thread, but after a thread is up so long the edit feature is removed. I could not redo the pics...hence they were removed to allow for more space.

Good question? You ever do something you later regretted? :) I was really enjoying the build and doing that particular thread.

Keep the thread alive...it's a nice change of pace from the "Who's the best scale jet pilot" or "Who's the best whatever". I love the build threads, as they show an individuals way of doing things that others may use if doing the same project, or use as an alternative on a future project.

Concerning the servo leads and air tubing I tried a new approach (at least for me that is:D) the keep everything neat.

I used transparant tubes to lead everything from the tail towards the front:

Servo leads;

These tubes weigh almost nothing and replacement/ removing of the leads and air tubing is very easy,

The carbon wing rods look like they are glued onto the fuse?? On mine they went right thru the body to capture the other wing??

don't worry,
they are just small pieces of carbon tube to help guiding the rods when I push them through the fuselage.....

The Mig is equipped with HiTec Digital servo's,

there are these cute little ones in the tail;

And what I really like with these Digital servo's is this servo pragrammer!, handy; for example the two servos in the tail, just program one reverse; and they can be connected to one lead.

Did you use the stock ball links on the stabs?? Mine developed so much play i ended up mounting the servos right in the stabs with direct linkage.

i changed the original ball link with a 3mm shaft with secure linkage...

I too noticed to much play, so I replaced the links with new ones which had a much tighter fit around the ball,

M3 screw with 2 blocking M3 Nut ...with new ball link...
Total replace original solution.. (thx.VINCENT)

i dismounted the tail assembly after 10 flight...because vincent give me the info about ball link problem
