FOX COMPOSITES SABRE F86 for Wren 44 build thread

Next Project!

Decided to get my self a Fox Composites Sabre, the Hawk is so good.

Kit arrived, really well packed, professionally done, and of course full fuselage and wing bags included! Great value.;)

When you open the box the quality just leaps out….live hinges included, flaps all retract bays and mount…etc..etc.
The quality of the moulding is superb.
A really nice feature is the two wing tanks beautifully made and just slide into the wings (see pics). This keeps the fuselage clear.
I shall run a build thread as normal and update stage by stage, I will not be able to start for a couple of weeks due to work load, but I am really looking forward to doing this one.:D

Paul,

Looks good but any reason why molded all yellow?? Kinda forces you to paint the whole thing? At least if it were silver you could whack a few decals or stripes of paint and cover off 90% of schemes out there?!?!?

Rgds,
Mark

Yellow is an option, silver and white also.
I wanted yellow to do a sport colour scheme but I understand that there was a yellow F86 full size!
Yes I shall bring this to Bickley, also the Hawk, Jetmach 44 and L39.

Roll on summer:D

I think the kit is around £500.00, give Motors and Rotors a call.

OK
First up.
I will not be doing such a detailed build on this one, mainly because the instruction (link provided above) are so good.

But there are parts that i will do my own way and these may be an option for others.

The first thing to work on is the stabilisers (tailplane to us Brits!)

The instructions show 2 JR flat servos and uses 1 channel for each servo.
The RX I am using is only 8 channel so I will Y the two together.
This means that both servos must be installed identically and also the same way round.

Pic 1 Shows the mount I have made to hold the servo.
Pic 2 Servo test fitted in mount.
Pic 3 Test fitting servo.

The instructions were followed with regard to the control arm, this involved a 3 mm tap.
Pic 4, 5, 6 show the servos fitted and linkages made. On 6 you can see that the servos sit differently in both side as they are the same way round.

Rudder servo install is a piece of cake.
The mount is already in the fin, so it is just screw in, cut a slot and fit the control horn (3mm tap again).

Pic 1 Shows servo in place.
Pic 2 Fin with slot and loose fit location rod.
Pic 3 Loose lit fin to Tailplane assembly.

Hi Paul

I had heard that Jim was no longer making his models. Do you know what the current situation is?

No sorry i do not know, the web site is a little out of date!
Dave has them in at Motors and Rotors as far as i know.

Yes, it is a nice quality kit.
Should go together very well, and is perfect for a Wren 44.

Paul

Thanks for the info. I picked it up from RCGroups and they must have had out of date info. His models are really good EDF propositions and it would have been a real loss if they were not available.

John
