Smoke setup without tail pipe
Hello guys,
I have a question about smoke setups: I have made several very successful smoke setups with Stainless Steel tubing (similar to the ones being sold online) crimped at the ends on an X-acto blade, with great results on a few planes with tail pipes - the smoke was always thich and white. Lately my friend installed a similar setup in a Kangaroo with P-80 turbine, and the smoke he is getting is rather weak and thin - is this due to the fact that he's not blowing the smoke oil through a hot tail pipe ? and what can be done to intensify the smoke on such a setup where the turbine is installed outside of the fuse completely ? Mind you we have always used one injector tube on all these setups. thanks ! |

RE: Smoke setup without tail pipe
I have a smoke system without a pipe in a Boomer and it kicks off tons of smoke
I can increase or decrease the amount of smoke by moving the injectors closer or further away from the tail pipe of the turbine Good Luck Ted |

bevar, thats very similar to what we did, and it doesnt smoke a lot on this setup fo some reason.
Any tips where to start checking why? |
RE: Smoke setup without tail pipe
if the injector is too far into the jet blast you will burn the oil (hotter temp) rather then vaporize it and you'll have less smoke density. check that you've got the tube far enough in but not too far and that the delivery of fluid is sufficient, too little fluid will give too little smoke.

RE: Smoke setup without tail pipe
Do a search on smoke injector in this forum. About 2/3 of the way through the thread I did a tutorial with pictures on how to make an injector that works great without a tailpipe.
