12FGA Charging Question

Hi Guys.
I have had my Futaba 12 FGA 2.4Ghz for a few months now and have been flying it in all my jets without incident. I love this radio. Anyway I always charge it with my Triton using the charge jack in the rear of the transmitter. I charge it at a rate of 200 Mah as per the instructions. The instructions state that if using the charge jack in the rear of the transmitter you must limit the charge rate to 200 Mah max. If you want to charge it faster then you can disconnect the battery lead and charge it direct. I don't like to repeatedly plug and unplug things so I don't like that option. Any idea why Futaba has limited the charge rate through the transmitter? In the past I have charged my 9C at 400 Mah or more. Even being able to charge at 400 Mah through the back of the 12 FGA would be helpful. What are you guys doing?

RE: 12FGA Charging Question

I don't get enough flights in on my 12FG in one day to wear down the battery.

I just ordered a spare 2000mah pack from NoBs batteries. He makes one specifically for the 12FG. You can fast charge it a 2 amps but you'd still have to disconnect it from the radio.

Dom,

Where did you find a charging lead that fits the charge jack on the back of the transmitter?

I have been looking around for one for awhile and haven't found one yet.

RE: 12FGA Charging Question

I use the same radio. What i do is just open the battery hatch and connect the battery connector cable to a charger and auto-charge it. I do not use the suppiled charger as I tend to discharge and recharge my batteries regularly. I would assume that Futaba suggest to use 200mah to prevent any damage from the battery getting too hot while charging it? I mean, those are casual NIMH cells, I see no reason to not fast-charge them in any way.

RE: 12FGA Charging Question

Hello,

I am charging my T12 FG using the jack connector at 800 mA, no problem at all.

Regards,

Hi Steve.
My local hobby shop ordered it for me but if you search the Tower Hobbies website and look at the acessories for the 12FGA you will find it.
