RE: SHIPPING BY UPS
Harley,
I agree with you. Terrible customer service. Everybody has a job to do. Unfortunately, some folks that think that the minimum performance outlined in the company manual is good enough. "It wouldn't be a minimum if I had to do better" is the mode of operation. Judgment have calls to be made. That gal took the low risk route (in her mind) and refused the shipment while unknowingly dangling an object that probably cost more that her car over the concrete slab.......No company manual guidance I would suspect......It gets frustrating when no one is comfortable or has the equipment to make the proper command decision. Just lots of folks going the low risk route...and then to lunch......... Tailwinds, John |
RE: SHIPPING BY UPS
BTW, I heard a rumor that Fedex doesn't use forklifts either ... they have a cool new loading method called a trebuchet: Naw...it's brown, it has to belong to UPS....in fact I sure it is the same instrument used to carefully handle and transport my first Tamjet. Then in spite of massive evidence of gross mishandling, they deny the damage claim..... They suck, they really do! |
RE: SHIPPING BY UPS
I use fuel oil deodorant to kill the smell. I comes in a spray can at your local HVAC supply house. I just spray some in the carton and around the tailcone and it acts like Fabreeze for Kero and Jet Fuel. Good to keep arpund the shop to for the occasional spill

RE: SHIPPING BY UPS
Flammable liquids are not prohibited in the ground or air system, though in order to ship a pkgs that is hazardous you need to be a hazmat certified shipper. unless it is ORMD or ORMD -AIR ( hair spray, stuff like that.) the best way to ship a turbine or fuel pump is to clean it, dont for get to put the festo on the fuel line and then bag it, then box it.... i still cant believe that someone opened your pkg.... thats a load of crap..... Sounds like something the UPS store would do.... ( mail box ect. )

RE: SHIPPING BY UPS
Several years ago, I shipped my radio in for repair. UPS refused to ship it for me because it was wrapped in the ..are you ready for this ........... "the wrong color wrapping paper"! tried reasoning with the female(?) desk clerk, but to no avail. Took it across the block to FedEx, who shipped it without a word. When I told the lady at FedEx what UPS had done, she was stunned. Makes ya wonder ehhh????!!! Bruce |
RE: SHIPPING BY UPS
I am currently trying to secure proper air shipping of the Jet Luge (P200 powered) from IAD to Frankfurt for the Nitrolympx event in Hockenheim in August. Arg.. what a costly nightmare this seems like it is going to be....to do it right. This is what I have learned so far.
The Gas Turbine and related Fuel components are Class 9 Dangerous Goods and must be packed by IATA packaging instruction 900 and must be labeled and certified as such. Also it must be consigned under the entries of UN 3166 Vehicle, flammable liquid powered. My new Lithium Mag batteries are yet another class. So far most all of the direct air shippers only move dangerous or hazardous material or goods under contract (not a person off the street) On top of that I will need to pay a customs broker to handle that issue. The best option so far is to hire a door to door service like Forward Air, but the price quote I got was just over $1000 round trip because it must leave and return from the states at JFK or Atlanta.... Crazy huh.... so.. so far the show is a no go, unless I get this sorted out. See what happens when you TRY to play by the rules....... Bob |
RE: SHIPPING BY UPS
well, I use UPS in all the purchases that I make in the USA, but, in finish remittance had broken our ELAN, and had repaid only US$100,00 for the damages. péssimo service and high cost (US$1.200, 00). I never used for remittance from Brazil to USA, but, it also must be horrible. Our post office is very good, but, as all have limits of size and weight, that is, the express services earns what they want.
We have 4 engines, and, when they need maitenance : HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM!!!!!! we do not have a trustworthy and safe express mail service, but, all nastinesses...[:o] there it is my situation see you guys !!! [8D] jose |
RE: SHIPPING BY UPS
I wonder if there are any Pelican Cases that are suitable for jets, that's if they can custom make one. That way you know your stuff will survive....... (unless they drop the sucker from 30 feet up while loading the cargo onto the jet)

RE: SHIPPING BY UPS
Had a bad experiment with UPS also, you can see at the beginning of my JHH F86 build thread here on RCU.
but IMO there is always a risk of any shipping method rather being the shipper or the receiver ,there is always that group that works for them wanting to hurry and go home and dont care if they smash a box and just say "OH WELL-IT's NOT MINE" |
