Clunk question

Hello,

I bought some fuel fittings and the clunks that came with my Skymaster F4 won't fit through them and like a bone head I had already glued them (the fittings) in.

Question - I ground down the clunks to fit, Will they rust in the fuel? It took off the chrome plating.

Thanks,
Andy

the skymaster clunks that I turnd down are brass and will not rust. Dubro and sulivan large clunks fit in the fittings just fine if you don't want to take the chance.

Probably. You might try BV fittings, like used in the kingcat/bobcat. They are pretty small, and I have not had bad results with them.

If they are steel they will.

They are Skymaster and they ARE NOT brass. Looks like steel to me.

If they attract to a magnet they are steel and will likely corrode. If they don't get attracted by a magnet then they are likely stainless or brass. However some low grade stainless will still be lightly attracted by a magnet.

300 series stainless steel is not magnetic. 400 series is. It has to do with the content of nickle in the stainless. I simply dropped it in a glass of water overnight to test. It rusted. To bad because it looked really good turned. Good size to. I used my handy dremel combo sanding station to turn it (I don't think they sell them anymore - its been a real handy tool.)/.

I can make you a custom aluminum clunk on the CNC lathe if you think it will help. I just need to know your diameter constraints.

NP, I'm thinking about making some for myself for fun. Todd's one of the best, no doubt. A personal friend of mine for years and years.

Todd, if you read this, call me tomorrow morning, I was in a meeting today, and it's too late to call you now.
