Cincinnati Jets - 2 DAYS!!!

1 Attachment(s)
TWO DAYS left until the first annual Cincinnati Jets "Thunder in the Sky" jet event. We will be flying from a 47' x 6000' runway. Some pictures are attached of the flying site that show the fantastic site where we will be flying.

We will be flying at a 4 way intersection where two taxiways meet and the landing area at show center is huge as you can see in the pictures.

There are some additional pictures from the day we were there and our friend Terry Jacobs performed some demo flights during a media day for a full scale event later in the year. This is a completely wide open flying site and unobstructed on all sides.

Link to Directions: http://www.ci.middletown.oh.us/depts...irections.aspx

You can pull the map sideways with the mouse and locate I-75 fairly easily. I think most guys will come from I-75.

Let me know if you have any questions...Thanks, Gary

Looks like the field is oriented southwest, northeast, as in runway 05/23. thats great!! the winds are predominately southwest this time of year.

See ya there, camper and all.

Goose, it is NE x SW, and you are correct, the winds are typically right down the runway for us here in Cincinnati. Not making any promises but direct crosswinds are not typical with this runway orientation.

See you there, Gary

Burt, we are glad you are coming!!

Here is some hotel infromation for you. I think most guys are staying at the Holiday Inn Express. If you tell them it is for our event, listed as Thunder in the Sky, hopefully you can still get a rate of $72.00 that I arranged. This is about 8 miles from Hook Field and 10-15 minutes drive.

The Drury Inn is right across the street from the Holiday Inn Express, don't know the rate but it is an almost new hotel.

The last choice is the Manchester Inn, it is right around the corner from Hook Field (one mile or so) but I think it is older and not nearly as nice as the other two, but I don't think it is as bad as the infamous Indian Head in Winamac (where I stayed once).

Holiday Inn Express (513) 727-8440
Drury Inn (513) 425-6650
Manchester Inn (513) 422-5481

If you need anything else just let me know, Gary

I added a direct link for directions to Hook Field in my original post above. There are written directions for pilots to get to the pilot parking entrance below.

These are directions from directions to Hook Field from the Holiday Inn Express hotel and I-75.

From the hotel or I-75, take State Route 122 (Roosevelt Blvd) west 3.5 miles and then bear right at the light onto University Blvd North when you see the direction sign for University Blvd. Drive 1.4 miles and turn left on Shafer Road at the light by Domino's Pizza, which is on left. Stay on Shafer until it turns into Germantown Road (just under 1 mile) and then turn left by Frisch's onto Wedekind Road (Run Way) and drive until you see the pilot parking entrance signs on right.

Thanks, Gary

Goose, several of us will be there all day on Thursday getting setup and I think we can start parking guys around noon or so, including the RV's. We just need to get the spectator area taped off which will probably be the first thing we do in the morning on Thursday. Just keep in mind that we cannot start flying until Friday morning at 8:00 am at which point the runway will be closed...Gary

Guys, please remember to bring your own turbine oil. The Jet-A is NOT pre-mixed with oil, it is straight out of the pump.

There may be some BP2380 at the airport but don't count on it. Bring your own because we don't have any except for our personal use and the nearest airport is about 20 miles from Hook field...Gary

Gary Jefferson 07-18-2008 07:51 AM

RE: Cincinnati Jets in 2 Weeks!! Hook Field Directions Link Added

After visiting Hook Field today I found that there is quite a bit of turbine oil there and we will have it at the registration table or by the fuel truck for sale. There is both 2380 (15-20 qts) and at least 30-40 quarts of Mobil Jet II. There is a thread on the first page of the jet forum right now where allot of guys are running Mobil Jet II, including an endorsement by Wren for this oil.

I would still bring some of your own because when it is gone that is all we will have available at the field...Gary

RE: Cincinnati Jets in 2 Weeks!! Hook Field Directions Link Added

Guys, I had another question about the Jet-A we are giving away for the event. We are providing the Jet-A "ONLY" and it will be pumped straight out of an airport truck at the event into "your" container using "your" turbine oil.

Everyone needs to bring their own containers and their own oil just like we always do when we attend an event.

Thanks, Gary
