Skymaster Mig-29 OVT with Single P-180
Today morning, I tested prototype Skymaster Mig-29 OVT (JetCat P-180 powered). Here is video of this flight.

Another amazing airplane from Skymaster!

The Mig looks superb. Can I ask that that you DO NOT release this model to the customers until the landing gear is properly developed, that is with the correct spring rates in the oleo legs. I understand that customers are still having problems with the oleo springs in the MK2 Hawk. That should simply not be happening. Best regards John |

Can I ask that that you DO NOT release this model to the customers until the landing gear is properly developed, that is with the correct spring rates in the oleo legs. I understand that customers are still having problems with the oleo springs in the MK2 Hawk. That should simply not be happening. Best regards John Please don't worry about the gear of Mig, I only design adjustable gas-spring/oil-damped struts and never use simple spring design. That's because the function of spring is not be used to absorb shock energy but only be used to suport weight of plane. If a spring is been designed to absorb huge heavy landing energy in limited strut stroke, its spring rate will be unreasonable high and cause plane bounce when landing. This is the reason why most of full scale planes use gas-spring/oil-damped struts. The gear of this Mig-29 will use the gas-spring/oil-damped struts design that same as F-16(1/6), F-4 and MB-339, so the air-spring rate is adjustabe to suit different weight of planes. The other news is that Mig's nose strut can be shortened automatically in retract position to fit in scale nose gear well. Best regards |

Likai,
How scale is this Mig? I know a few of the other Skymaster models, whilst great flyers, have had some slightly 'off' outlines. Would be interesting to see if the model could be used reliably in scale competition? Regards, Mark |

Looks nice but from the pics..however I don't see how you intend to have a mechanical lock in both extended and retracted position ....The original uses hydraulic lock .....

ORIGINAL: lavi rider Looks nice but from the pics..however I don't see how you intend to have a mechanical lock in both extended and retracted position ....The original uses hydraulic lock ..... These cylinders are new designed self-locking cylinders, there is a small locking piston in the mounting-end cap of cylinder(yellow part of nose gear). This small locking piston locks the main piston when cylinder is in the shortest position (gear extension) and unlocks when gear is in retract position. |

From looking at the first photograph of the plug on the Skymasters website it looks to me as if they have deepened the fuselage between the two engine pods to provide enough room for the single turbine. This would knock it on the head for scale competition use as the front and rear views would not be correct although the side view would still be ok. I may be wrong about this and would welcome feedback from Skymasters. I can understand why they have gone for a single central turbine as a twin turbine would have considerably less appeal in terms of cost and complication, still looks like a nice model though! John |

It looks overpowered :)
Can it fly with a smaller turbine ? |

Likai,
Do you have any gyros to ease "hovering"? Florent |

ORIGINAL: Rider-60 Likai, Do you have any gyros to ease "hovering"? Florent Yes, I use one GY-401 on yaw control and one GYA-352 on pitch/roll control. I still have not try hovering without them, because my prop-plane hovering skill is not so good[:o]. I don't want to take the risk to crash it. But Seba has told me because there is no torque effect in jet plane, so hovering a jet without gyro is not so difficult than a gaser. Maybe I can turn off gyros next time. |

is there enough room in the engine compartment to accomodate a JetCat P200 or AMT Olympus?? rough dimensions for both are: width: 130 mm 5.1 inches Length: 270mm 10.6 inches congrats on a successful project [sm=thumbup.gif] cheers buck |

:D
You know it amigo. besides I'm too cheap to purchase another motor. LOL cheers |
RE: Skymaster Mig-29 OVT with Single P-180
If you own a P200 and an Olympus you aren't cheap buddy. lol, thats like saying I'm cheap because I put walmart tires on my rolls royce. well, thats not a good analogy, lol. You get my drift!

andy
you weirdo :D I don't own both but used them for dimension reference sicne they're already using a P180. I only own the AT450/Olympus and dont' want to purchase another motor if the Big Block iron lung will fit. LOL cheers buck |
